He was at the Center for African studies Basel as visiting professor in the years 2009-10s and I still listen to his piano when I want to feel the wind of Cape Town..don’t know why 🥳🤗😶

I have only come to realise now the masterpiece in legendary Mac Mackenzie. He brought to life again pieces and places, and spaces in time of a culture and life that he had faith in; that he believed in; and that he could expose to the world.Of a people of colour; of a culture of races that lived long ago in a people that he brought to life again. Thank you Mac. Thank you Hilton; And a special thatnks to that 'boertjie' laitie who left he's 'plass dorpie' to sleep on Mac's Silvertown Cape Town home in search of a music he so sought to play. This was in Switzerland or Sweden...the gentleman are as from the left Abubakr "Kaachie"Davids...Riedewaan Dollie (MHSRIP)...and his son Thabiet Dollie...the gentleman next to Thabiet is only known as Mac...his surname is McKenzie...this was a cultural tour arranged via the District Six Museum

I took the title of this song to Google Translate- Here comes the Alibama. Is the song about the old Confederate raider the CSS Alabama (which I understood visited Capetown to take on supplies and ammunition), or is it about something else? Please excuse my ignorance, I'm just curious.

i think you spot on Marc. The song goes back to a time and culture of a cape colony; of slavery & exploitation; and mostly of a people telling their stories through the medium of music.
