I had just for a set of these and was having some trouble with them being a little grabby on some white oak (they did fine on cherry). I had the top of the tool level rather than down a little - like a negative rake scraper. I when out and tried them after watching your video and they worked great with no tear out! Great video! Thanks

Thank you Jim for sharing an exceptional video on exactly what I needed. My spindle lock collar cracked and fell off after attempting to remove a very stuck chuck. Your step by step approach has given me the confidence and courage to attempt the replacement. You also gave me the thought to take the shaft with the stuck oneway chuck to an automotive repair in the hopes they can apply the necessary torque needed to loosen it before putting it all back together.

Hope you're doing well. And reading comments. Noticed some play in my little Jet and wanted to review before I went into it. I had taken apart a Vicmarc many years ago to check those awesome tapered bearings (dumb move; turned out the "clicking" was a loose grub screw on the pully -- rookie mistake). Your excellent and and complete tutorial gave me the right idea for the jet. Not a separate nut for tension -- the hand wheel serves for that. Loosen the grub screw and some careful tightening. Little machine now hums away. It had sat on a floor for years with a bit of shameful abuse. Now I have a use for it and it is working perfectly. I will echo the appreciation repeated many times here for a generous and thorough walk-through. Rare in this medium. Hope things are well with you. Greg

Just completed the repair. Your video was invaluable. Would not have attempted it otherwise. I found it easier to tighten the rear interior stop collar by removing the rear spindle lock and accessing the set screw through the hole in the headstock. This allowed me to set the gap and tighten the screw in one operation (without having to slide the spindle back and forth.) Great video! Thanks!

Very good video. Most folks do say get the rest as close as possible, but they leave the part about making sure the bevel is not on (or as you say "too near") the rest. ABC makes a lot of sense, but I wouldn't go so far as saying "always". As you know, there are times when the first part of the tool entering the wood is a point (or end of a tool, such as a spindle or bowl gouge). Everyone is familiar with "skating" when doing so, but there's only AC without the B in that case.

I thought I was the only one that used a clth instead of a paper towel! Everybody forgets that we don't ever clean our glasses with a paper towel because the wood fibers in the paper towel will scratch our glasses. Why put scratches in a nice finish that we just sanded smooth?
