One of the most painstakingly beautiful pieces I've ever heard. Full of melancholy, but with silent determination.

Unforgetable..I was in the army..lot of years ago..sing with me... Did I see you down in a young girl's town With your mother in so much pain? I was almost there at the top of the stairs With her screamin' in the rain Did she wake you up to tell you that It was only a change of plan? Dream up, dream up, let me fill your cup With the promise of a man Did I see you walking with the boys Though it was not hand in hand? And was some black face in a lonely place When you could understand? Did she wake you up to tell you that It was only a change of plan? Dream up, dream up, let me fill your cup With the promise of a man Will I see you give more than I can take? Will I only harvest some? As the days fly past will we lose our grasp Or fuse it in the sun? Did she wake you up to tell you that It was only a change of plan? Dream up, dream up, let me fill your cup With the promise of a man Dream up, dream up, let me fill your cup With the promise of a man

One of the great dirges ever written, Townes was born in Ft Worth but moved to Houston and grew up there in the '60s, like I did and like Steve Earle did. He was very much a local hero in Houston in the late '60s and early '70s. Thank you Steve for honoring him with such a powerful tribute.

at first i thought this was the king of the hill theme song because i remembered it as that song about the south. but then i realized they are from california, and they are talking about SoCal. SoCal does indeed rock.

I grew up in Oklahoma and had a tennis instructor whose ancestor had been on the trail of tears. A remnent of the Cherokees remained in North Carolina, but the majority got moved to Oklahoma. The Cherokee capital in Oklahoma is Tahlequah. Ironically the name Oklahoma is alledgedly an Indian word meaning "Land of the Red Man". The tribes native to Oklahoma included the Osage, Pawnee, and Kiowa.

Deep. I know at So many folks' funerals. They speak about its not the name you come in with. It the of years in between. When you came and when you go. What you did that someone can recall. Or the times you made someone laugh. Gave a smile to someone who was feeling down on your last trip to town.. People say. Not ever know your name. Yet they will remember how you touched their life. Made. It if only for a day. Feel a certain way. That's the stuff that's real. How you made someone else feel. If only for a day. 🙏🙏🙏

If it helps, Phantom Doll is explicitly about gender dysphoria. Raggedy Ann came out to play but Andy is singing this song, and it HURTS to not be Ann. The metaphors at the end remind me quite a lot of TS Eliot's Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock, which says "I should have been a pair of ragged claws Scuttling across the floors of silent seas" (and hansen is a nail polish brand). It isn't explicit in this song, but it talks quite a lot about trying all the different, acceptable options, and things continuing to fall apart... ties into The Mountain, having finally got there and finding NOTHING, and I tie "phantom visions that fly me where faithful fear to go" to Phantom Doll...

A perfect theme song for the show. Just the right mix of punk and country with a bit of a chaotic edge. It sounds like white guys getting hit in the nuts.

Well, I figure I'll buy me a motorcycle Wrap her pretty little frame around a telephone pole Ride her off a mountain like old Arlo Figure I'll buy me a motorcycle Well, I figure I'll walk to the liquor store Thunderbird, two bottles Maybe three, maybe four Follow my feet down to Music Row Pour it on the pavement like you would a tombstone Like you would a tombstone Like you would a tombstone Pour it on the pavement like you would a tombstone Well, I figure I'm weary of feeling this way Pop another pill, hop another train Tell my brothers and my sisters that it's keeping me sane Figure I'm weary of feeling this way Well, I figure I'll buy me a motorcycle Wrap her pretty little frame around a telephone pole Ride her off a mountain like old Arlo Figure I'll buy me a motorcycle Figure I'll buy me a motorcycle Figure I'll buy me a motorcycle
