This image actually never appeared in a Calvin and Hobbes strip, it was the reason Mr. Watterson never allowed merchandising of his cartoons, it's out of character for Calvin and belittles the whole cartoon which was a very deep and emotional existential dream for a comic strip, this guitar manages to capture that same existential crisis, it shouldn't exist but manages to get on every tattoo artist's wall and every where cheap bumper stickers are sold, I hate it but love it at the same time it's a constant reminder of corporate greed and now it's immortalized in a guitar that'll probably sit in a pawn shop for the rest of its life

Brian what kind of wood is that
@TheBrianRaglandChannel2 ай бұрын
I get the sheets from my local Lowe's. It's the wood that's used to make cabinets out of. I'm really not sure what the species of wood is, but it's solid. I'll have to really figure that out.

why not make a ring that just glues to the top of the body instead of trying to recess the face of the body? it would be wayyyyyy easier for you. you could make spacers for the pickups and trem to. im not sure how stable the trem would be after but in theory
@TheBrianRaglandChannel2 ай бұрын
I've actually experimented with that process where I made a lit of luan wood or a thinner type of wood. But I find that. It works well when I do the dremeling. I know it's a lot of work, but I'll have to experiment with other methods. Also, when I do this method it doesn't fatten the thickness of the body.
@Zombie_13x332 ай бұрын
im sorry but i always have questions lol. after its all done. on the sides of the body where there are seams i always wondered if the finish or whatever cracks because of the seams or just cus your using laminated wood. i bought premium sheets of wood one time for a diffrent style project and all the sheets were delaminating before i even cut them. worst wood ever that day.
@TheBrianRaglandChannel2 ай бұрын
No, there are no seams between the layers most of the time. Ha ha. During a step I call the ugly phase part one. I use Bondo body filler. And sanded smooth. Then in the ugly face part 2 I add the wood grain filler and it makes the connection of the two-layer seamless. No problem at all. Please ask as many questions as you like. I love to share my art and my processes.
@Zombie_13x332 ай бұрын
im surprised you dont buy the cheaper chinese copy pickips. it seems to me you just like building and owning these guitars and having a $100 pickup may not be needed in alot of them because the cheaper knock offs arent that bad sometimes.
@TheBrianRaglandChannel2 ай бұрын
No problem at all. Please ask as many questions as you like. I love to share my art and my processes. I actually use a variety of pickups. I do love the sound of an EMG 81 though, but I do experiment with lots of pickups that I buy on Amazon and ebay. Some of the really good pickups I found run about $20 and they have on. OMH output of 17 plus. So it sounds amazing. Thanks again for watching. I so so much appreciate. You being here and interacting.

hey man! you might have mentioned it but i wanted to ask if you were still just using plywood and how well have the older builds aged after shrinking some? i have yet to do this but really want to someday. the last led guitar turned out really cool too EDIT... i just saw a close up shot and see that your using actuall wood and not laminated or ply wood... what type of wood is it? it looks like 1x5 or 1x4? pine??? thats pretty crappy to work with from my experience. it shrings and moves alot and even cracks easy. but i can see the appeal as far as availability. you need to just go out and buy some body blanks or some hardwood lumber. they would be so much better i think. it may not matter to you tho and i get that too.
@TheBrianRaglandChannel2 ай бұрын
Thanks so much. I really don't know the breed of wood that it is. I get the sheets from Home Depot, It might be maple or something along those lines. But yeah, found it works well for this process of building guitars.

What glue or adhesive did ypu use?
@TheBrianRaglandChannel2 ай бұрын
Actually I used hot fix ring stones, so the glue is actually on the back. You apply a heat source like a soldering iron and it affixes. The rhinestones to whatever you want it to.
