Is it crazy to suggest that you strike your line on the "wrong" side of the board so you don't have to handle the saw upside down?
@TheBlokeCave2 күн бұрын
Not at all, there are many ways to accompish a task. You could risk damaging the face side, but I suppose it doesn't matter too much with beadboard as it will be getting painted anyway.

Hello why do I need to hold with my hand at the top of the drill
@TheBlokeCave4 күн бұрын
You only need to stop the end of the drill (Chuck) from turning when you press the trigger. This allows you to widen the jaws releasing the drill bit.

The reason that punch has a straight shaft is that it's a pin punch not a nail punch. But there's no reason you can't use it for nails if you find it works better.
@TheBlokeCave5 күн бұрын
Hey thanks for the info, Im always looking try and use the right terminology to improve my vids where I can. I did always wonder what those punches main use would be. They will fit some prety big pins though! When does a nail become a pin, I wonder?
@JohnPlissken4 күн бұрын
@@TheBlokeCave well a pin doesn't have a sharpened tip and typically no head either, and is made to fasten machine parts (often clamps). Also a pin doesn't bend, it's main purpose is to hold parts together along its horizontal axis. A nail is driven in to fasten wood together using it's vertical axis and usually bends to allow some flexibility before breaking.
@JohnPlissken4 күн бұрын
@@TheBlokeCave short answer is I suppose if you used a nail to fasten parts along its horizontal axis, like using the nail to fasten wood hinges, that would pretty much make it a pin.

I'll never scoff at eye or ear protection. Working with old nails they can easily break or split - doubt anyone wants that hitting them in the eye(s). If you're working in an enclosed interior space hearing protection is also a smart decision. Not sure why people would be giving someone grief for working safely, but hey I guess being mocho on the internet means more to them then their sight and sense of hearing. End of the day, work in the best and most comfortable way for you...

all you need is a pair of plyers of vice grips lmaooo Using the drill is more steps and looks like a pain when vice grips or plyers will get that out faster than you putting the drill on the broken nail
@TheBlokeCave5 күн бұрын
I actually agree with you! Just showing people how to do it with the drill. Its handy if the vice grips are in the van and its more than 10 steps away.

Christ, you don’t need goggles or ear protection for such a simple task and put your body in the way use your weight get some leverage, if someone really doesn’t know how to get nails out of a board they don’t need to be working wood. And the easiest way to get nails out of pallets is to just burn that shit and get some real wood from the lumber yard.

Oh ya. I’ve done this a few times. Usually I’ll just take my channel locks out of my side pocket and yank it out with them but if it’s a ring nail that fucker isn’t going anywhere and I’ll usually just bury it with a hammer lol. I’m a plumber not a carpenter 😂
@TheBlokeCave5 күн бұрын
Haha, Funny you should say. I actually learnt this from a plumber
The easiest way to remove all the nails without any tools is to throw the wood into the campfire (and pick out the nails from the ashes in the morning after) 😅

Or you can take a wide chisel to pop a big clean chip around the nail head which can be glued back after prying the nail out. -also a good way to completely hide a nail or screw head by popping up a clean chip, driving the nail or screw, then glue it back down then light sand.
@TheBlokeCave5 күн бұрын
This is great advice I might try this one and let you know how it goes.
@Noctudeit7 күн бұрын
If you can access the edge of the board then you can just lever it up a tiny bit, then gently tap the wood back down leaving the nail head slighly raised. Then you can just pry it out by conventional means. Why make things harder than they have to be?
@TheBlokeCave5 күн бұрын
Not always possible though, but I agree 90% of the time you can get access to the edge some way.
