@@markdowney1340 Yes under normal circumstances I know they would. However, I wonder if they would have carried extra for this flight because of the weather conditions on that day. The aircraft would most probably be the most useful back in Keflavik for Icelandair and they don't need to worry so much about sorting out transfer for passengers from a potential diversion airport to Heathrow. They can just fly the passengers back out from Keflavik. Of course, I might be wrong. It's just what my immediate thoughts are

I would guess (suggest) that was a lightning strike caused by your aircraft as a static dis-charge just like when you rub your hand along a rail and you create static i have witnessed this once when i happened to be watching a plane fly into a rain cloud a lightning strike was created by the plane reacting with the charged particles in the atmosphere....the one lightning bolt came from the cloud and struck the plane......aircraft continued flying as normal (as did your plane thank goodness)

The reason that Air Travel is so safe is because no risks are taken hence the "Go around" The plane can withstand the biggest of lightning strikes and continue to fly safely. All in a days work for the crew.
@leomacherla2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. Of course, a lightning strike is not ideal but I would feel much safer on an aircraft than on, for example, a ship. There is also more time to react to situations and the crew brief go arounds and diversions so it would not be a 'Oh no what are we going to do?! Panic!' moment

The conversation is entertaining. Why on earth would a flight from Keflavik to Heathrow divert to Munich? They would almost be as quick to go back to Keflavik. I realise the woman talking is from the London area so she probably thinks the world stops somewhere around Watford but Icelandair fly from both Glasgow and Manchester either of which would be a much more obvious diversion.
@leomacherla2 жыл бұрын
A flight departing from Keflavik to Manchester was severely delayed because of the weather. I think the weather at EGCC was much worse. Glasgow, however, would probably make sense

@@grahamepigney8565 The weather was very similar in all of these places. I don't know all of Icelandair's routes but I remembered (on the flight) that there was a flight departing to Munich and I assumed that would be far enough away that the weather would have improved. If it was any other storm then all of the major airport in the UK would likely suffice.
