What is the grade of this driveway? My husband has built a driveway that looks similar and its 22% grade.

You're doing a fantastic job with the equipment you have! I feel that you will have to use some different material to make the road hard. It looks like all topsoil and it will melt away with every rain. I liked and subscribed to your channel!
@diygrind
@diygrind Ай бұрын
Thanks. This property used to be a quarry so about half the road has primarily rock under it. I have also imported 300 tons of breaker rock and gravel between this year and last. We have been getting 3-4 times our typical rainfall this year which has been hard on lots of the steep gravel roads in the area.

Which hydraulic fluid did you use?
@diygrind
@diygrind 2 ай бұрын
I just used a universal trans tractor fluid. I know it's recommended to use the steiner brand or synthetic ams oil, however other machines with similar pumps don't require anything special. Plus I could find the recommended stuff locally.

Getting that seed to grow is key. Hopefully that seeds shade tolerant. If that is a low usage trail why didn’t you consider having a slight out-sloped for the entire steep section? This way no water collects in a ditch and no water bars are needed. Out-slope allows the water to move across the trail, never gaining enough volume to cause erosion.
@diygrind
@diygrind 2 ай бұрын
The seed has been growing well. It is supposed to be shade tolerant, but I should come through and do some tree trimming to get some more sun on it. Early this spring I graded it the best I could the slope out to the side. Unfortunately that wasn't successful I think because I drove up it a few times when it was wet and the water started following my tracks. It's also very sandy so it washes easy and we have gotten almost 12" of rain here in the last month, so that is not helpingmy cause.
