Sue! I love Palermo's. In 2021, I went around to ten different highly-rated tavern style pizza places and was going to make a video ranking them. I still have all of that footage (I think) but still haven't gotten around to putting that video together, LOL. Now I'll have to. Spoiler: I ranked Palermo's #2. I was a little surprised I ranked them so highly as we often had Palermo's growing up. And while I liked it, I never realize how amazing it actually is. Comparing it to nine other top-rated tavern style pizzas was a wake up call. I'd also note that the geographic range for that pizza survey was very wide--ranging, taking me from Northbrook to Chicago to Oak Lawn to Wheeling, and everywhere in between.

Eric, can’t wait to see the number one choice for tavern style pizza. I was surprised to hear you visited here when you were younger. We’ve been going for 40 yrs! Hope you find that footage…I’ll be watching for the place that beat Palermo’s!

Hi Brenda! I, too, was surprised to learn Parker's had pizza, as they are known for seafood, etc. I was looking for AVPN pizza places in the area I hadn't tried yet, and Parker's is on the list: www.pizzanapoletana.org/en/associati/248-parkers_ Unfortunately, what they served me the day we went was a far cry from anything resembling an AVPN pizza. I'm guessing it was either an off day (maybe their AVPN guy was out sick), or else they may have decided to keep their focus on other dishes and kind of let the pizza go. Had they not had the AVPN logo on their menu and been on the AVPN website, I would never have included them in my video. But I thought mentioning it was fair game since they present themselves as a leading authority in Neapolitan pizza.

It really is! We just had one again this past Sunday during the Super Bowl. There was an hour wait for pickup. Heck, I would have waited two or three! It's that good :)

Don’t forget Mrs T’s Pizza for a great thin crust!

I have 10 tavern-style places that I've visited & reviewed, though that covers a much wider geographic area (e.g., city, Northbrook, Wheeling, & everything in between). I like the idea of hitting the other local Downers places, too.
