Frankly, I am terrified. I would love a sequel where the entire movie is scenes of their home life together, having friends over, going to functions together, sedate, peaceful, loving. But to make a sequel that succeed commercially, they need to have bad things happen to the characters, and hopefully a good resolution. It is the idea of bad things happening that scares me - I want this story to be happily ever after, only.

But the idea of them pretending to be another race, and publishing under a pseudonym, is incredibly gross, but not at all surprising. Its the same mindset that used to underpin minstrel shows, before we collectively, and correctly, decided they weren't okay anymore.

JKR never fails to baffle me. I used to idolize her, in part because she had always seemed to me as a genuinely good person. Maybe I was just naive. It floored me when she outed herself as a TERF. I still feel betrayed by it. My inner child wants to say her money changed her, that she was a good person who was corrupted by wealth. But maybe this was always who she was. It’s sad.

I think this is such a good conversation to have! I really feel like that with special editions as well. I feel like they realised that booktok has a big consumer potential and that people will buy different editions if you give them the option and that way they can make more money with less effort and risk I guess. Yay kapitalism /s. Same as why there are sooo many prequels or sequels to books that were originally single books. Because of booktok, more young adults have started reading in the netherlands, so it's definitely also a good thing, but I think it's also important to be able to criticise it as well.

I didnt watch this episode until today, but Penance was actually my first book of the year and I also massively enjoyed it!

I also loved the series! But I wonder how it would be if you don't know the books, because some stuff doesn't get explained much. Like, they dont say much about Clarisse being like that because her dad is Ares, or like you said, they dont say much about smelly gabe. So I do think people will miss some parts because of that. I'd love to hear your thoughts about ep 3 as well!

Ren I just found you and I am so glad you did this chapter. I came late to the book and lucked out to get Henry's chapter. I cried at the love goung backwards sentences. Casey's writing is so knowledgeable about so many things! I think that is why people read the book so many times. And as much as I loved the movie, esp. the casting, therewas too much of Casey's insights left out. Thank you for this!
