Hello there! Great sounds/vibes man! I have a question for ya! So somewhat recently I acquired an Uher 4000 Report Monitor off eBay (before I realized I could get one NOS). I bought a DIN to 1/4 female jack adapter to be able to use either an SM57 or my PGA48 into it, and I noticed you have a DIN to 1/4 female jack adapter in your setup as well. I was curious how you got yours to work, because I've run into some troubles with mine. I've got a 5pin DIN to 1/4 female jack adapter plugged into the mic input infront of the unit, with a Shure PGA48 mic w/ XLR to 1/4 male jack cable. I can't seem to get any decent signal to transfer onto the tape without cranking the gain on the Uher all the way up, and with me either raising my voice into the mic or the volume of my source. I'm not sure if maybe I have the wrong DIN pin configuration, or perhaps its wired wrong? I'm kind of stumped at this point. Any advice you could give would do wonders! Thanks.

Hi! Congratulatrions for this, sounding beautiful! One question: Have you canceled the eraser head to build the loops? If so, how have you done it? Thinking about getting one Uher myself... Thank tou very much for the help!

Amazing piece. Great job. Quick question on the Uher 4000. Did you mod the recorder to bypass the erase head for looping?

Beautiful and inspiring. Does the 4000 play loops well? I’m yet to see any videos of it being used to create loops without the use of a reel. Does it have enough pull to play just around a bottle without use of a wheel for example? I’m so impressed with its sound but not so sure if it’s the most flexible for looping.

It's a great tape machine, although I wouldn't play tape through it without the reels on it. The mechanism that holds the reels on the machine is fixed to the reel posts. If a tape loop was played without a reel to help guide the tape I think the tape loop could get tangled on this machine. I loop with the Uher all the time, it's great!

dBLay Three years ago I was lucky to record an album in Lakewood, Denver. And on a day off I went up to FairPlay in South Park. One of most beautiful scenery I ever seen. Colorado , at least , what I've seen of it just blew my mind. Still friends with some musicians from Denver and working with them, touring and recording.

dBLay Belgium, Europe. Some gigs in Denver were scheduled at the end of December this year but all got postponed with the Covid thing. I made close friends with Slim Cessna and all his band mates from Slim Cessna Autoclub, Denver Broncos U.K., Wovenhand, ... Right now finishing an album recorded here in Belgium last February with Slim...

Awesome work! I'm a little confused by the loop: Were these two separate loops recorded one after the other into the DAW and then mixed there or did you use some sound on sound technique to get a single loop? Can you elaborate on the process? If it's two loops, which speeds did you use respectively? I also sent an inquiry to get a machine from the old new stock. I hope they don't run out before I can get one!
@dblay93674 жыл бұрын
So this piece is two loops. Each loop is recorded into a DAW. One of the loops I recorded into the DAW three different times...I think. Each new pass into the DAW I played the tape back at slower speeds. I almost always playback tape at slower speeds. With that in mind, when recording to tape, select a faster speed so you have multiple slower speed selections to play with during playback. I hope that helps!

I arrived just in time for this...snow is falling, fresh coffee and dBLay. Glad you and your family are safe. This is super lush and warm and considerate. I saw your rack on IG, minimal and precise. Rock!
