These types of videos are so much better with narration, or at least some description or pop up label of what is being shown.

I am pretty sure Dukhan and Umm Bab even today (I am assuming it's still ok to visit) is well worth a drive out, the beach at Dukhan was a hoot when we used to camp their over a weekend, the local security Guys used to tell us off for lighting BBQs on the beach as the petroleum gas used to seep up through the sand, they still stayed for a burger though😀😀

The change from then and now is vast and immeasurable. A time of great hardships were coming to an end. Just as ww2 came into being, in 1939 saw the discovery of gas and oil in Qatar. As a result of this money was starting to be made available to the nation for improvements and building projects. In one of these photos you see the construction of the Sheraton Hotel in the West Bay area and in another the construction of the new road along the Corniche with land reclaiming in progress.

Don't know what year this was but it was 80s and the aircraft in the background is Amiri 2 (A7-AAB) a boeing 727), the big chap is Sheikh Hamad and I think the one on the right is Sheikh Jassim, Sheikh Hamad once escaped his security guards when he was in Geneva and managed to walk through airport security, on to airside and walked 1/4 mile to get to our aircraft, he said " I was fed up with waiting for them" nice fella with impecable english (Sandhurst man). He was the Heir Aparent at this time. I also remember the old souk's photographed and the Sheraton Hotel (steel work exposed for years due to some sort of planning issue) when it first opened, they had a Trader Vic's restuarant that was fabulous.

Japan supported the Coalition Forces in the first Gulf war. They sent the same type of support equipment, merchant ships & vehicles. For months I drove a small pickup truck and traveled / guarded the Hirata Maru cargo vessel.
