You’d be correct! Kulwicki did indeed get his 1st win here in real life back in 1988 which as you said was the inaugural race at Phoenix. 8:26 That was one big ass wreck! Looked a lot like the one we saw in the Spring 2011 race which unfortunately was the last race with the original track configuration as far as having the grass goes EDIT: Multiple organic AI yellows? This is something you don’t see every Episode! Especially since I thought that 2nd one was a debris caution from the previous wreck. Good race Nicky! Pretty damn exciting to say the least!

I feel like the whole thing with DNFing and some random driver wins may be some sort of game glitch kinda like the red flags in F1 23. The new paint scheme is great at least And you're right. The media was definitely interested after that incident with the AI in Darlington

Couple things about the MRN intro Many people were in fact surprised about how poorly Pruett ran in the 32, and Carl Long and the 85 literally hasn't made a start at all up till now, and you're not used to picking through traffic, you're used to traffic picking through you But you know the big thing about expansion teams is that they usually suck the first couple 13:35 Great parody of that specific song 😂 Finishing results must have been some kind of glitch when you DNF'ed

I don't do qualifying setups. I prefer to qualify based on how fast I' actually am, starting position be damned. It's not where you start, it's where you finish, but if you keep dealing out love taps I'm going to start calling you Richard Really Petty. I'm just kidding, Rubbin' is Racin'. Can't wait for the next episode, the new chassis should help a lot. BTW, next season you can officially drive a Dodge if you want, even if you're the only Dodge out there.

That 2001 Winston All-Star Race is gonna be BIG in this Universe/Timeline in terms of the amount or cars in the field. Also that would’ve been Andretti’s 3rd Career Win as that 1st win was in 1997 at the Pepsi Firecracker 400 at Daytona. Also when you said a few episodes ago you’d do 3 seasons of this series, at least that answered my question when it came to that. This has been a fun series to binge watch and I hope when we reach the end of S1, we get some interesting driver retirements and replacements

You’ve been doing pretty good with the Default Setup Challenge! I’m impressed considering that and Rookie Difficulty were the only way I could do well in this game as sadly I’m too much of a wuss to make custom setups and race on Legend. Goes to show you everybody’s different in many different ways and have their own personal preferences. Also have you thought of using the other DJ88 UPS Paint Schemes that came with the game that you haven’t used yet just for the sole purpose of variety? Again, I ask that as a possible suggestion but at the same time, I’m fully aware that it’s your channel, your videos, your call and your rules so it’s up to you.

4:40 Yeah because the game is the Thunder 2003 game MRN will talk like it's 2002. Regardless the rookie battle is quite interesting, and i'm fairly certain Irwin's Daytona performance was just one thing

*CBS Sports post-race* "Another exciting 500 as Mark Martin finally gets the win in this race, but there's also a fair amount of attention on some of the young guns today. Andy Houston in the PPI 96 brought the car to a surprising 3rd, and could have challenged for the win if he was closer. Fellow rookie contender Nick Guenther also came away with an impressive debut run by finishing 9th, while holding off the Intimidator himself. Guenther of course the defending Busch Series champion, some were skeptical of him starting in Winston Cup so soon, but I think he's quieted down the naysayers. Driving for that third Petree car already trying to make that investment worthwhile"

The original Thunder 03 Game had this as a day race since real life 2002 was originally gonna be a day race until Mother Nature said otherwise and turned it into a night race due to the long ass weather delay which prompted NASCAR to make it a night race the next year till technically 2017 as the previous 2 years before that were supposed to be night races but Mother Nature also ruined those too and pushed em both from Saturday Night to Sunday Afternoon

You would think we’re at a Road Course solely because of that which makes me wonder: Why didn’t this mod program the Road Course Ringers or drivers in general who are good at Road Courses to only run at Sears Point and Watkins Glen and/or only run/qualify/finish well there?

You talk about Season 2 towards the beginning which makes me excited to see what interesting driver retirements/replacements we’ll be getting once we make it to that point. Also it makes sense to have Atwood and Newman in the races this late in the season since that’s exactly what happened in real life during the later part of the 2000 season

Why didn't you do a 2 stop race and pit on 25 and 50? I have to give you credit. You may not he getting the finishes you expected, but most KZbinrs have a ton of DNFs their first season and you have finished like every race it feels like

I think thats the other thing that kinda annoys me about this game compared to Thunder 04. 25% races all except I think the Daytona 500 is where everyone is required to do a 1 stopper which to me is absurd seeing how I think having the game spread the tire/fuel consumption to fit to be 2 stops would've worked better for us as we wouldn't have to run at least a second off pace each lap for essentially 2/3rds of the run for 40 laps rather than like 20 laps on Thunder 04. There were only 2 instances where I had to do a retake because I was so annoyed of the outcome or how the setup was. So sadly unlike Thunder 04, not every episode was one take. I didn't DNF in those but either I'd finished dead last being multiple laps behind or the car would be badly damaged and I just said screw it it was only lap 5. I'm out of mulligans though.

@@MimNickyu787B I get that the AI are only going to stop once in this race. But you were like 2 seconds off the pace 15 laps into the run. I wonder if The time you made up not running 2/3 of a fuel run with no tires would make up for the time you lose on pit row? Ntm you get your adjustments sooner, so now you're running 1/3 of the race with poor handling rather than half. Idk, I haven't done the math to see if it's actually slower or faster but in your situation, personally, I would have tried it. Worst I could finish was 41st so nothing to lose. Radman used to restart all the time so I think we can forgive a couple of mulligans lol.

You can tell I'm getting more frustrated but I haven't blamed the game besides the handling model. Which to be fair, EA fixed it in Thunder 04 as I really hate when I turn the joystick it wants to snap no matter the track. (Probably because of the 50 tire grip stat) At the end of the day, I chose this difficulty and I knew the consequences going into it. Is it a struggle. That's part of the experience. You are going to suck. Do I wish to suck a little less? Yes. I was kinda hoping I'd be consistently running 30th at this point but that's where the tire grip upgrades come in. I try not to wreck the AI because you can kinda take advantage of the cautions if timed properly. -Nick

Was finally able to come around to watching this Stream as a posthumous upload. This came out really well Nicky! Good work! Will we eventually see a regular Thunder 03 Career Mode on your channel in the future with this exact mod? If so, there’s also a way to get Joe Nemechek’s #26 back in the game which moves Todd Bodine back into the #66 so if you choose to do a Career Mode with the original base Thunder 03 Game rather than Thunder 2000, I highly recommend it as Nemechek replaces Frank Kimmel in the full time roster and Bodine’s original #66 takes the place of the reincarnated #26

I try to treat the AI like I'm racing my folks on NR2003 (Context: I race online in a couple series multiple nights a week where Tuesdays are actually broadcasted races) I try to race clean to a point. Unlike this game, I cannot give them the "Brotherly Shove" as I call it very often compared to Thunder 2000 XD but yeah, I try even though I admit it's frustrating. (There are times that I admit I'm frustrated in this playthrough) But that's the jist of it. It makes when you do get to be competitive, feel a lot more satisfying. -Nick

You’re finally getting better Nicky and I LOVE to see it and before you know it, you’ll be competing for wins and in the hunt for the championship! Just like how Thunder 04 went in the beginning! I have faith your channel will eventually pop off once you start the next Pokémon LP once NT2004 is done. Keep it up and you will eventually get there!

Its kinda cheezy but something you can try thats worked for me in the past has been: kinda low tire pressures (20-22) Max front downforce min rear downforce 100% on both springs Adjust balance with wedge only (usually around -0.5) Basically minimizes tire wear while retaining most of the speed.

Glad you caught your blunder before it all came apart completely! At first I didn’t understand it until you explained you mistakenly clicked on the OG Thunder 03 game rather than the Thunder 00 Mod. At least now I know! I’m sure you were kind of scared with what was going on! Again crisis averted! You’re doing a helluva job Nicky! And it’s part of the struggles of being a KZbinr: Mistakes are bound to happen! Keep doing a great job like you’ve been doing! EDIT: Because of you, I now say *Brotherly Shove* quite a bit as I’ve added it to my vocabulary along with many other terminologies that my favorite NASCAR KZbinrs use. Not just you but a lot of other people too!

7:52 I’ll take things John Andretti wouldn’t do for $500 Alex. That is something I will NOT miss about this LP. And your humor will never get old to me so keep it coming for as long as you want. Also after this LP eventually ends, ya gotta do NASCAR 2005 CFTC next with the Mods that put Mayfield and Schrader in the game with their actual names, character model(s), driver info and stats and pit crew/boxes/signs/wall banners along with every other missing driver like in Ty Thunder’s videos. It’s only a suggestion on my end as it would be the PERFECT game to do in conjunction with Thunder 2000. But again, your channel, your call. I’m only here to help and give ideas on what you could do.
