It is! Just try with simpler plants first, the ones that don’t mind barerooting, usually plants that grow easily from cuttings. Once you get a grip, you can move to more delicate ones. Good luck!

@@growpuravida I just found out that it is Tebow Young mango. Per a different site it's a reasonably good commercial mango, about half the size of Kent, with a mild Edward flavor, nothing spectacular. So I lost interest in it. I would like something like Carrie, which stores well for a long time. Plus tolerates down to 23F. I really want to grow mangoes here but we get about 10 freezes between 25F & 27F per year, with some years down to 23F. What can I grow with spicy complex tropical flavors?
@growpuravida13 күн бұрын
Your best bet is to grow Julie in a big 40 gallon pot that you can bring inside the patio for winter. You can use a potting mix that is lighter and put the pot over a wooden platform with wheels. Julie is one of the best in spicy flavor group and stays dwarf.

Covering the tree with Mylar blankets, then a tarp. Mylar blankets reflect 90% of the heat back at the tree. It works well for garden plants. Have never done on anything large yet. Your thoughts? Hello, Maybe it's also possible to put those raised beds on a small basis of sand or gravel, or just put some root cloth under, or a combination... just to reduce the full soil contact... However, I still think this burning technique gives some interesting results. All the best
@growpuravida16 күн бұрын
The problem with sand here in South Florida is that it breeds root knot nematodes, so we try to avoid it as much as possible. With root cloth - do you mean the plastic one? Not suitable for organic beds since it sends microplastics into the environment, and organic cloth like burlap would decompose in a season. Could be used with gravel or stones, probably, like the Japanese technique of putting houses on foundations of just well compacted stones.

The most elite types of Egyptian mangos are Owais and then Taymoor, we have other types of mangos that are not originally Egyptian mangos like the Alphonse or Kent. But the purely Egyptian elite speices are Owis and Taymoor and are considered the most expensive. Actually, I have tried most of the mangos from different regions and wonder why Taimur and Owais are not as famous as Alphonse mangos.

@growpuravida22 күн бұрын
Depends, which tree are you referring to? Avocados can be grafted in Jan, Feb, March. Mangos not a good idea because the trees are in flowering/fruiting mode rather than vegetative growth. Other fruit trees differ so it depends. And climate/location also is important subtropics vs temperate climate, please specify which location and what tree you are grafting.

I'm from the land of a tropical Cambodia, and we Khmers are also accustomed to eating guava at its optimum crispy green but sweet. At Asian specialty markets across the USA, you'd most likely find only the crispy green ones. Unlike folks raised in Western culture, they like their fruits to be mushy soft.

We made a cactus stand with tung oil, not raised beds, unfortunately the info came later)) linseed oil doesn’t last even one season. The raised beds in the video are completely protection-free, we didn’t reoil them since the year they were made, so this is what it is with 2 layers of linseed oil at the inception
@ItemHazardАй бұрын
Was this used with tung oil? Would linseed oil protect the “burnt look” of the wood I wonder 🤔 Thanks for the update
@growpuravidaАй бұрын
No, linseed oil. Watch the video about making cactus support- we made it with tung oil several years ago, the stands don’t touch the soil but they are constantly exposed to crazy FL sun and rains, and they still look exactly the same as the day they were made!

Videos always make grafting seem very easy, until you try it and discover you have butter fingers.🤣 I think I'll try this soon. Thank you for the video. Is there a reason why this grafting method is more rare?
@growpuravidaАй бұрын
Yes, there are so many factors why grafts fail despite a good grafting skill. 3 most important ones are wrong season( vigorous rains, dry winds, scorching sun vs cloudy etc.), wrong tree( tree not in good health or good vigor due to disease or poor roots, or scion is from unhealthy tree) and the last one is knife lacking the needed sharpness for a good cut. This particular technique is not rare, but with mangos the easier approach to top-work a tree is to slice it at the level you want, usually 4-5 ft from the ground, make a slant cut so water accumulation doesn’t rot the sliced top and then wait 2 months to get 6-8 new shoots from there to graft onto. Most people use this technique because mango trees are very forgiving to complete slicing/pugging. Where i am, the mountain winds are very crazy and the sun will dry any scion out in a day. So keeping the upper canopy of the tree intact is beneficial for me. However, this method has higher fail rates because the trunk is very thick and often times one will fail to cut deep enough to reach and expose the cambium. I actually bought a very sharp hunting knife for this. The one i am using in video i do not recommend any longer if your trunk is this wide.
