Now that the Thatcherism have removed the coal and steel industry in this country ? How will making music be possible now ?. By us sticking a finger up our chuff and whistling chopsticks to sell off in China? And now you have finally wheeled out the Lord Clement Jones and him being the communications ombudsman AND the head of AI at Bletchley Park I would humbly request that no further unsolicited calls are made to my number ending in 304.Because who ever they are , they are only spreading more misery and illness. Can you play PC games on it. I mean CD or disc games
@bngn
@bngn 7 жыл бұрын
There's no optical drive built-in to this machine, so you'd need an external drive. However, the real limiting factor is going to be the power of the on-board graphics. You'd be able to play old games, perhaps some from a few years back with the settings turned down (but don't quote me on that; I've not tested it), but modern games or games on high/ultra, likely no. Much as the form factor would be nice for a gaming machine, that's not what this is intended for. Unless you're limiting yourself to old games, you'd be better buying/building a mini-ITX gaming PC. You won't get as small as this NUC, but taking care of your hardware choices, you should be able to build something that's compact, with the bonus of a full GPU.

Hi! I hope you answer my question. What if I use my hdd in my old laptop. Will it work? The windows installed on that is original and i dont plan to purchase another windows 10. And can I transfer the OS to the ssd?
@bngn
@bngn 7 жыл бұрын
Whether or not you can transfer your existing copy of Windows will depend on its licence. If you have a retail copy then you should be able to transfer the OS. However, if you have an OEM installation (i.e., it came with the laptop), then you cannot transfer it to a new machine and you will need to buy a new licence. A straight swap of the hard drive from an old machine to another to 'get around' this requirement is unlikely to be successful. The new machine will have different hardware which Windows be aware of, causing an activation issue. Also, the different drivers and configuration required by the hardware of the new machine will cause their own problems likely requiring a re-installation of the OS from scratch. As to the practicalities of transferring the hard-drive to your new machine, this may be physically possible, assuming they both adhere to compatible standards and size (e.g., SATA, 2.5"). Note that not all NUC machines have space for a 2.5" hard-drive, in that case limited to only mSATA SSDs. If that's an issue, you can buy caddies which convert internal hard-drives to USB hard-drives, which will allow you to make use of the old drive as secondary storage.

First off the good points. Beautifully crafted, with lovely keys and excellent typing experience which reminds me of the classic thinkpad keyboards. Functions are equally amazing and all work fine with a myriad of useful shortcuts. The cover is a work of art that slides open and attaches with magnets. Now let us explore the major flaw. As many have reported the keyboard having a problem charging at some point- although it may still work when plugged in. This happened to me and therefore I took it apart to discover the problem. Let me say that it is not possible to open up the keyboard without causing damage and I suspect will lead to it being unusable. But I did so to discover the problem. See my amazon review: www.amazon.co.uk/d/21i/Microsoft-Universal-Mobile-Keyboard-Black-UK-Layout/B00NSNDIJQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1498604396&sr=8-3&keywords=TABLET%2BKEYBOARD%2BUK&th=1

Heyy :-) the meanwhile i have this little nice radio...YES is its a good choice! In-House its working but as usual would say for Antenna-Radios its sometimes not so easy to receive a station..i guess this strongly depend if we live nearby a transmitter...also IN my camper here and there i get " No Service" available. Here it would be perfect if those kind of Radios would provide a litte "jack" to plug in an external Antenna...I saw some hacks here on youtube from other users on other Radios...Unfortunately i cannot find here in germany Radios with ext. Antenna adapters ( e.g.) Outdoor ..and not to FAR from the next transmitter all this is perfect the ability to CHARGE via USB is so much pretty....camper is providing solarPower...this way the radio will sound 4EVER :-) So.. SONY: please give us a Radio like THIS...with a little ext Antenna Jack - And you will HAVE the best DAB-Mini ever!!

Unless you're in a very strong signal area, you're always going to have a bit of an issue with indoor reception with regular radios, be they AM/FM or DAB - although the effects of a weak signal will differ with each system. So, yes, you will need to be in a reasonable coverage area for the ensembles you want to receive. Radios in camper vans (or cars etc.) have a particular problem because you're putting the radio in a metal box - a Faraday cage effectively - which attenuates a signal even worse than a brick or wood construction. In this situation, an external aerial would be ideal. I would suggest though, that a radio more intended for static placement would be a better option in that case. This one really is designed solely as a portable, to be moved frequently, something that an external aerial would hinder. Having said that, you may have a bit of luck clipping an external aerial to the collapsed telescopic aerial, using a crocodile clip connected to the centre braid of the coax to the external aerial. It won't be as good as a proper installation since you'll be missing a proper ground connection, but may yield better results for you than the built-in aerial alone. However, if you're out of the coverage area for what you're trying to receive, even this won't help you.

@bngn
@bngn 7 жыл бұрын
No, I've not changed the battery as mine is running fine at the moment and I'd expect to for a few years at least. I don't know enough about working with Li-Ion batteries (presumably what is contained in this radio) to know how easy it would be to swap, but I would just say to exercise some caution due to the volatile nature of this battery type.

Hi thx 4 reply Ben ...u´r laser fast :-)...yeaa i know...i guess i will first get the device ..Sony is producing great devices ..last week i got the PL-880 TECSUN...so great radio...but here in germany the old fashion way with LW, MW and even UKW is going down ( unfortunately)...so i will mainly use this for SW...The sony will be my Daily-Sound-Machine for here and there or camping...the biggest advantage for ME..and finally the reason for BUY was the capability to charge the sony via USB....we spend lots of time with our camper and outside...we can charge it with simple SOLAR-panals...same is the Tecsun...charging via USB...this is so great and prevent me to buy all the time new AA batteries

Hi Ben, I noticed that the radio cuts the info on the screen after a while (for instance it displays song's name and artist, but after some characters it turn back from start). Do you know why? Thanks!
@bngn
@bngn 7 жыл бұрын
I noticed that the programme information cuts off the last character - or rather, I suspect it technically shows it but immediately loops back to the beginning meaning you can't actually read it. The looping behaviour makes sense due to the limited display capacity. What I suspect Sony has not done is code in a short delay of, say, a second, before the loop starts again. This is a bit of an irritating usability oversight and would require a firmware update to fix. I don't know if that's possible for this unit nor if it is, whether one is available.

It's a regular PC running ordinary Windows. So, whatever you would normally use. If you don't have a preference, technology news outlets regularly review the latest versions of the most common antivirus products which should be fairly easy to find in your favourite search engine. I won't recommend one myself as I've not conducted a thorough test and general recommendations do change over time.

So DAB and DAB+ are different like 4G and 4G+?
@bngn
@bngn 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, in the sense that both 'plus' versions are enhancements to what has gone before. DAB+ is an improvement on the original DAB standard and is backwards compatible with it but not forwards compatible. So, a DAB-only radio cannot decode DAB+ broadcasts but a DAB+ radio can decode both. In theory, DAB+ can offer better audio quality where it's offered, depending on the chosen bitrates (poor on the UK's newest national ensemble), with stereo being possible at lower rates and a better handling of loss of signal (fades out rather than the chirpy, bubbly mud sound of original DAB). Whatever digital radio anyone chooses, be it this one or another, it is important now to ensure it is DAB+ compatible otherwise the full complement of available stations won't be receivable. This shouldn't be assumed as at least in the UK, I believe original DAB only radios not compatible with DAB+ are still sold. So, check the specs carefully!
@yordyords
@yordyords 7 жыл бұрын
Ben Gamblin Ok, thanks for the explanations. This will help me in the future, because in my country, we still don't have DAB radios, because our regolations can't allocate spectrum. Hopefully in year or two, we can have DAB.

I would be surprised. It's not something I've tested but there's no dedicated GPU here, just the on-chip graphics which I suspect will struggle. Indeed, I've had difficulties with PS2 emulation on a PC with a proper GPU (albeit a low end one - a Radeon HD7750).

@bngn
@bngn 7 жыл бұрын
No idea why that's happening I'm afraid. I'm not using Windows 7 anymore so can only give you generic advice. Check your installation media to ensure there's no problem with it being read (e.g., is there obvious damage to the CD?). Check your external optical drive is functioning correctly (do other discs work okay with it?). Use a different USB cable (they're not all created equally). If your external drive is USB powered but it has the option to accept a power supply then try using it with that. Use a different USB socket. Try removing any non-essential peripherals for the duration of the installation (e.g., webcam, printer, scanner - even perhaps the mouse) in case there's a conflict. Finally, are you sure it's freezing? It may be worth trying a different (preferably wired) keyboard and mouse in case there's a problem there rather than with the installation process itself.

hi gabay1953. Maybe you already figured it out but you need Windows 7 installer with USB 3.0 drivers added to it. Intel has a guide and tool which will help you do this. This NUC will work fine on Windows 7 though after following all the steps. It's kind of fiddly but definitely can be done.

hey ben iwanna ask if it's good for video editing ??
@bngn
@bngn 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, It's not something I use my machine for so I can't give you an answer from a position of experience. Also, the nature of video editing can be so broad that a definitive answer is difficult - e.g., simply joining lots of small video clips together that have been filmed on a mobile phone, with minimal transitions between them, for a final 1080P home movie is a different matter to creating a 4K professional production with very high quality source material, many transitions, VFX and titles. I suspect though that light video work on this machine would be alright but anything more on this particular model may be slow compared to a purpose-built desktop machine, particularly when it comes to rendering where you won't have the advantage of hefty GPU acceleration. Of course, there are NUC machines with higher grade processors up-to a Core i7 which may be more acceptable depending on your requirements and RAM shouldn't be an issue but it's important to remember that the processors are similar chips to what you'd find in many laptop computers and so don't have the same power as a desktop designed for the purpose. Also you need to consider storage where you're limited here to 2.5" drives. Unless you look at an SATA or m.2 SSD (both of which could be very expensive considering video editing requires a fair amount of disc space), you'll be limited to a single slow mechanical drive and/or external USB hard drives. With the latter, the appeal of the small form factor is perhaps reduced over a compact but more flexible traditional desktop. In short, you should be able to do some video work but don't expect the high performance of a purpose-built desktop machine with a high-end processor and GPU acceleration for rendering. Your experience may vary though depending on the exact nature of what you're trying to do. I stress again as well that I've not done any tests in this area so this is all purely hypothetical.

+aunumero73 Hi Patrick.
