Interestingly, my guest told me in that conversation that one of Aristotle's 4 pillars of happiness is property.

I'm disabled. I guess because my city is poor and without finances to help people like myself, I'm supposed to... start a foundation to help myself and people like me?😅 make it make sense.

Sir, you have some wonderful talents of being able to synthesize large "hunks" of knowledge and pull from that important life lessons.. You will have an interesting life, an interesting future, but remember that life is only "here and now" :). A pleasure to hear you and to hear your mind in action!

How long does it take to establish a healthy habit? I have heard once you go for 6 weeks or so gets easier.
@NicolasProcel4 ай бұрын
I've heard all sorts of things, ranging from 21 to 254 days, so I'd very safely assume it depends on the behavior itself (how "sticky"/enjoyable/frictionless it is) and the person performing the behavior (how difficult they find the behavior, their previous experiences). For a sedentary individual, an hour at the gym daily is difficult, but for a person going to the gym 45 minutes a day, going for an hour a day isn't too hard. That's the idea behind the gradual increase in perceived difficulty.

Not sure if this relates to asceticism practices..for example I practice celibacy and fasting,also cut out TV,music, entertainments,no social media except for youtube to listen to podcasts,i don't watch the news,sleep on the floor,take cold showers and meditate everyday and hoping to get an old phone with no internet on it...I dont wear make up or very mininal amount and dress very modestly,remove mirrors or not look at them. The little things like going to the supermarket feels like I'm going to Disney world.Feel very blissed out just looking at birds outside my window or watching shadows.Despite sleeping on the floor I feel a lot of bliss.Sleeping on a comfortable bed makes me uncomfortable even in a hotel I will rip the bedcovers off and find a floor to sleep on. I decided to be Celibate because I noticed falling in love gives me such a high in my brain it feels like a drug and it's almost always followed with a crash or a withdrawal.So I put two and two together and realised what goes up must come down. The irony is my nervous system is so sensitive it doesn't take much to make me feel that high of falling in love...for example I get that high from falling in love just by being myself.Or before from very minimal actions like waving goodbye to someone I liked.The high would stay with me for months. But a lot of porn addicts have very numb nervous system I read a paper that they need more and more extreme content to the point of watching anything for novelty to get a dopamine hit. It's awful because it trains the mind to derive pleasure out of things that are unnatural and also harmful to others. I noticed by depriving myself from most modern pleasures,self inflicted pain basically,or I guess delaying GRATIFICATION is the correct term.It forcing all the things I do that is traditionally seen as hard or boring as something rewarding. So I love waking up early,I love exercising,I love eating vegetables,I love studying,i don't mind inconveniences,I don't mind feeling bad. When you block activities that reward you for no reason,the activities that seem to be hard work will have no choice but to be rewarding.🙏🙏

Yes, dopamine and sensitivity to stimuli do relate to asceticism, and I suspect that sensitivity to what gives you enjoyment is what drives the choice to be an ascetic in many cases. It seems you have an exceptional sensitivity to stimuli and that you are leveraging it in a way that brings you greater gratification (which is really all "delayed gratification" is; despite the unappealing name, it is increased gratification), which is excellent. Thank you for watching.
