I don't like it when musicians, on their own initiative or on the conductor's initiative, try to "help" the composer, that is, by playing notes that are not in the score, as in the Minuet trio. The performance itself was excellent, as is common for this orchestra, but in my opinion it failed on this point.

Mr. van Alphen, ladies and gentlemen of the orchestra, I take my hat off to you - that was SUPERB! The spirit of Haydn clearly lived on in Wilms, and you brought it vividly to life with your delicate, energetic and simply beautiful playing. Thank you so much, and I hope to hear more music by Wilms from you in the future. Bravo! ❤

Tudo perfeito. Ótima qualidade de som e vídeo e a escolha de um compositor pouco conhecido e executado abrilhantaram ainda mais este maravilhoso concerto. Muito obrigado! 👏👏👏👏👏👏

I would like to see a ballet done to this. What storyline and how easy to follow or it would compare to The Nutcracker? It would be nice if Tchaikovsky had more dances done to his music.

Zeer mooi uitgevoerd, prima akoestiek dankzij een gevulde kerk. Fantastisch Rotterdams orkest om trost op te zijn met een inspirerende dirigent Sinfonia zal altijd blijven bestaan!❤

A new name for me: both the conductor and the orchestra (which he founded). He certainly has an active, dramatic style.

This might be 9 years old, but I've only just found this recording. Quite superb. Mr Alphens beautiful leadership of this orchestra is quite brilliant. On some movements, he's barely doing anything at all, simply letting the musicians expressing the music as Tchaikovsky intended...then other parts he is quite expressive. I love the way he moves the baton at the relevant parts, with his left hand then highlighting the key parts to the orchestra. Bravo!

My grandads brother was a bomb aimer on RAF lancasters. Unfortunately he was killed age 21 in February 45. I've read a letter that he wrote to hiss sister my great aunt maud . In it he said that on a recent night raid over Germany the wireless operator had picked up the nutcracker suite and they all listened as they crossed the Dutch/German boarder. Amazing. I can't imagine how they would have felt. A blanket of clouds and a view of the stars. Crazy.

Long ago, in a college library, in the music section, I said the score for the Fauré Requiem seemed to be missing. The librarian (music major) went nuts looking for it. There's a big fan base for this work!

Heard this for the first time when I was 10 years old, visiting Disney's EPCOT, where it is used prominently in the "Impressions de France" film in the park's French pavilion. It gripped me then and has never let go, decades later.

@@DrMitchMedina I'm not sure if you are aware, my dear doctor, that the woke left would regard this as the work of a dead white man, and subsequently would like nothing more than to place a permanent moratorium on such masterpieces and replace them with all manner of rubbish, in honor of Divisity, Equity and Inclusion. If you know anything about academia, you will know that there is such a push to rid courses of such evil music, such as that produced by the likes of Mozart, Beethoven, Bach et al. Whatever anyone thinks of Trump, the most significant aspect of his administration is to reverse this destructive woke crap, and that has to be good for Faure!

Today I was fortunate to experience this mass in an actual mass held for the dead Nov 2, 2024. Vocals were amazing, the orchestra was comprised of musicians from the Detroit Symphony. This was not just a concert, an actual mass the way the pieces written were intended to be heard. This performance is amazing, it's just I know how rare it is to have appreciated compositions to be performed in the original mass setting (Latin Mass).
