@@jtscanlas2 and if I am correct, this is one of few parishes in pampanga not to have a complete roster pag good friday wherein the passion images that participates during holy Wednesday do not participate on a good friday.

@@jtscanlas2 a long time tradition or is it based on rules implemented by either the camareros association or previous parish priests(which probably has yet to be changed)

@@jtscanlas2 btw other parishes with the similar tradition are in bacolor, guagua and lubao.. if one prefers complete roster in good friday, it is either in apalit, macabebe and Angeles. This is based mainly on videos or pictures that I have seen as I have never attended any processions in pampanga

Jose Oliveros Composer of this piece is Calahorra. this music piece was brought by Spanish friars to the Philippines during the Spanish colonization, that is why in most parts of the Philippines this Stabat Mater is sung.

stnjrgp thanks for hour reply. who is Calahorra? I cannot find any information about him. Also, according to some people who have commented on this Stabat Mater version, the composer is one Pablo Cordero Palma, a Pampango. He had four versions and the one being sung here is Stabat Mater No. 1

Jose Oliveros The reason you cannot find information about Calahorra is because he lived many years back during the time of the Spaniards in the Philippines. Calahorra is a composer of religious music, aside from the Stabat Mater he composed music for Masses. Don Pablo Palma y Cordero composed only three opuses of Stabat Mater. The fourth Stabat Mater they play in Bacolor where Don Pablo came from is that of Calahorra. The one sung in this video is that of Calahorra. Two versions of Don Pablo's Stabat Mater are played in Sta Rita namely Stabat I and II. Calahorra is not a Filipino. According to my grandfather, he is a Spanish composer. you might wonder why I know much of this info. It is because I am the great grandson of Don Pablo Palma.

stnjrgp Thanks again for your immediate reply. At last, I found someone knowledgeable about the Stabat Mater being sung in this video. Last year, I wonder where I can get a music sheet (pieza) of the version being sung in this video. Last year, I e-mailed Mr. Jose Tiburcio Canlas about it because in his comment on his post he said that any inquiry should be directed to him. Unfortunately, I got no reply to my request. Hopefully, through you, I can get one. The musicians accompanying the singers during the Good Friday procession in Tanauan are dwindling. This Good Friday,the musicians were composed of one accordionist providing the melody and three guitarists. Once I get a copy, I will talk to our Parish Priest regarding training young musicians for the succeeding Good Friday processions.

Jose Oliveros I can send you the music score of the Stabat by Calahorra, if you wish sir. Which version do you wish to have? There are here in Pampanga three versions being played. One is the version in Bacolor, the other in Guagua, and another in San Fernando. The one in the video is the version from Bacolor. If you wish to watch and hear the version in Guagua, watch Stabat Mater Calahorra (Guagua version) on you tube. I have made all musical arrangements for these three versions, if you can send me your email ad so I can send you sir the version you wish to have.
