Is this right enough for trolling? I just bought a 245 Starfire, which has a 5.7 MerCruiser in board Stern Drive. I really want to put an auto pilot on it for Fishing since the helm is so far from the back of the boat and I still wanna be able to fish with two people.

@@highpointeoutdoors6958nice, that’s exactly what I’ll be using it for on Erie and Lake Ontario. I’m pretty handy with working on my boats. So how difficult would you say this was? @@jakejacobson2999 I would give the whole project a 7.5 out of 10 for difficultly. But that includes the research of finding out what parts I needed to work from our Garmin to the drive unit. Finally a marina on Lake Ontario confirmed that the octopus drive type R unit would work for stern drive vessels. When I asked Garmin, which where I bought the reactor 40 from, they had no idea what drive unit would work for our boat. The installation wasn’t bad, the instructions walked us through pretty easily

The trick to catching a lot of fish is, 1. Go often, 2, fish with someone who Knows how to fish. 3.Read articles about fishing. Tips such as washing your lures are picked up by reading articles and listening to buddies and going to siminars. In other words, becoming a student of fishing. 4. Practice practice practice it’s NOT JUST LUCK.

Your friend did you good by telling you about the Chamberlain release clips. If you've tried using the friction clips you'll understand how frustrating and inaccurate they are and also, you can't load the rod up with too much pressure when it's all set up below because it can trigger the release and you'll have to pull it up and start over.

Honestly, I couldn’t tell ya a good way to avoid coho. We’ve caught them on spoons, flies and plugs. They just seem to show up and when you get into them, there’s usually more to be caught. However, running meat rigs seems to catch us kings consistently. I can’t recall the last time we caught a coho on a meat rig. Sometimes we will get a laker on them when we have it on our low diver and it’s in that cooler water temp.

Great Video. Thanks for sharing. Two questions for you. 1)I assume that if you have too much leadcore on an inline planer board, that it will not pull or track properly. Question: How many colors of lead core can you pull with the standard sized OR12 inline planer boards? 2)I do not have enough rod/reel combos or space to put more on the boat. If I was going to rig up four rods/reels with leadcore, what lengths would you start with? I tend to fish mostly June, July, and August. Thanks again for the great information.
@highpointeoutdoors6958
@highpointeoutdoors6958 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Q1: For me, I like to use the OR 12 boards up to a 8 color or a 200-250 weighted steel/copper. Once I get heavier than those, I will jump up a board size so they aren’t tracking too far back towards the middle of the boat. Q2: I think if I were to only run 4 lead core rods, I would likely make those lengths a 5, 7, 9, and 11. Those will get you as shallow as 25ft and deepest would be 55ft. This year we have had a lot of bites from 30ft-70ft down consistently. If you need extra depth, a snap on weight can get you an extra 5-15 feet pending on what size you use. I keep a box of snap on weights in the boat just incase I need to target an exact depth column. Hope this all helps

I see you asked about adding another battery on Chris' channel. Last year I added a 1243 Garmin and a Cannon Optimum to my electronics spread. I bought new batteries as I was getting low voltage alarms after fishing 4 hours or so but the new batteries didn't help. This year, I added another accessory battery in parallel and I haven't had any low voltage alarms. I had thought about getting a DC to DC charger to run from my kicker but the amps coming from my kicker wouldn't suffice the charge needed going back into the accessory batteries. Looking forward to some more salmon videos, hopefully the fish move back in.

Hey thank you for reaching out and giving some valuable information! My dad took the boat out this weekend and fortunately no alarms went off and the boats built in voltage reader said it was holding 14-14.3 amps the whole time while they trolled. We plan to keep an eye on it and will likely add a battery parallel if problems do arise. And thank you for the support! Working on completing a video right now, it’s gonna be a doozy.
