How are u dong now dr I’m a computer science student at ucl first year but not enjoying it now I’m thinking of going into dentistry however I’ll probably have go abroad as I don’t have the specific a levels required what should I do

Hi Doctor! Hope you well! I just had a question regarding the Dental system in the UK, I am studying Dentistry in EU (Croatia) and currently on my training year (6th year) but I am also from the UK. I was wondering do I have to do the VTE year after I come back to UK for NHS eventhough I am currently doing my training here? Would appreciate if you have any information or know someone I can ask from. If not thank you and wish you well!

I think after a person has graduated from any uni in EU,then they have to wait for 2_6 months until they get their GDC number appointed to them and during this time they can apply at private dental clinics in the UK and you get job easily especially now a days because there is a huge dental crisis going on in the UK.The GDC number allows you to practice privately in UK but after you are given your GDC number you go towards PLVE route I think and it's duration is 6_12 months.During this time you will most likely be working as a general dentist in the outskirts or rural areas of UK and not in the major cities.After you are done with your PLVE route ,you get assigned an NHS number and then as you would have both the GDC number and NHS number by then ,you would be able to practice general dentistry unsupervised anywhere in the UK.

I think the VTE route is for the UK BDS graduates and the PLVE for EU or graduates from other countries.But as you are gonna graduate from a university in EU you would be exempted from ORE exam(that is a great thing considering that it takes an average of 4 years until you clear both the parts of ORE

I’m in a similar situation; mid career change, no realistic path into a US dental program. I’m considering a Hungarian school, but I really know nothing about the program, and that’s a huge risk to move to another country for five years….or more as you pointed out. I think I may be better off staying in the US and continuing to apply here.

😭😭same, but I’m in the Philippines, The universities over here aren’t good. I’m searching for possible countries where I can apply, US is also on my list , but I’m not sure if I’ll qualify. Ughhh
