Through the pagan hellenization the Romans honoured Neptune as the patron god of the sea of Galilee ....and every year they would have a festival where men were chosen by the priests of Neptune to cast lines in the water and whoever caught a fish with a piece of gold in its mouth was excepted by the deity and would be given social status tax exemption and land or become a Roman citizen etc......Christ was making a fool of this Religious scam.Christ was be sarcastic when he told Peter to pay the tax "so that we might not offend them" .....Neptune had three virtues the "one who walks on water" the "one who calms storms" and the "one who could bless Greek fishermen with a large catch"......Christ did it literally to destroy and mock this false religion that was plaguing Israel.

This sermon has really hit home, and kinda helped birth our ministry. Our group Day of Rest, goes into local Churches and replaces their Band and Sound team so that they get a day off, to come to Church gatherings as a family, feel invested in and get a day off. We are going on close to a year now, and we are not only building relationships between Churches, but we are delivering a message about how much God loves them and didn't design them for burnout.

Really good message. I've been wondering for awhile if Christians should disassociate from politics completely but I'm kinda starting to understand that if christians remove themselves from the political process then both sides become less Christ-like. Theres this interesting dance between being separate from the stuff going on in society but not so separate that you're just running away from any form of influence/responsibility or uncomfortable conversation.

We try not to act differently than Jesus modeled for His Body throughout His life and ministry. Do you see Jesus condemning people in the Gospels? (John 3:16-18)

@@WestsideChurchBend I hope you're not serious, the gospel is offensive. If you not offending sinners, your not preaching Gods Word. Paul say correct, rebuke and exhort. Spurgeon says preach 90% law and 10% grace. I have been listening to your sermons and don't see you warning sinners about hell, looks more like Rick Warrens model, how to grow your church. Just remember, the bigger your congregations is the greater will be your judgment for not preaching all of the Bible. Start warning the homosexuals about what happened to Sodom an Gomorrah, yes your church may shrink but you will be feeding your sheep the true believers. Westside sounds more like business and pastors are the CEO. Recommend listen to John MacArthurs teachings he warns about your church style. By the way your plurality of elders is very good and biblical.

You missed so much... this ISN'T a "simple miracle" because (1) Peter isnt asked if HE pays it because as a Law keeping Jew, he did (2) Jesus does NOT address the Temple Tax but declares Sons as Exempt. Then immediately after saying SONS of KINGS are exempt, (3) Jesus tells Peter HE IS EXEMPT as well as Jesus... the Miracle then is the demonstration of the Kingdom reality of Sonship!!! (This is so often missed I made a video to get the word out!) ❤

It's difficult to stop talking about what we've personally experienced. We recognize not everyone believes in Jesus (and Santa is another subject altogether!), but useful? I'd say helping others find forgiveness, healing, and the power to live a new life in peace with their Creator is pretty worthwhile.
