My dogs have bitten people , I keep guard breeds and in my 67 years several fools did the fafo thing. A farm dog must be able to handle anything from coyotes to meth heads! I do not want powder puffs!! Right now I have a Catahoula and a Treeing Walker either one can handle business and they work as a team , my Caahoula's maternal grandpa is Roseland's Ton of Bricks!

Some k9s require a harder line, I kept mostly working line guard breeds most of my life including 18 years with a Timber wolf/ east german working line german shepherd cross and while you had better not abuse them these dogs need a harder hand. I am old now so keep Catahoulas, scent hounds and pitties because they are easier to handle.

Noooo, not everybody rewards from the right. I reward where the dog is supposed to be. For the front I reward with both hand in the middle. This is common sense.

As with anything in life, just because it's been around for a LOOOOON time, doesn't mean it "works" or is the most effective way of achieving quality results. Humans have been doing stupid shit for many thousands of years. As a species, we are very slow learners.

This is high level highly specific professional dog trainer material not intended for people at home or even many dog trainers training well behaved dogs to pass AKC Obedience and Rally. So by all means stick with whatever method is currently working for you as there's no need for this material if you aren't dealing with in-depth dog training concepts revolving around reactivity.

For a couple of guys who clearly interested in how a dogs mind works and how they (and people) learn - they are awful communicators. This was all too erratic with too much if their own language to follow. The main presenter was pausing expecting his audience to answer his questions and they weren’t responding, so I guess they were confused as well??

Punishment for the own happiness¿?????? Positive or negative what for, do you wanted to make a soldier for invade Mars¿??????? You don't need to condition anyone
@joefish6546Ай бұрын
Very complicated, but i think in a nutshell, punishing such as an e collar nick won't overcome a behavior that has been established. But redirecting the behavior to something else will. For example train your reactive dog to come to a strict heal when they see another dog to try to override the explosive barking response.
@hamseyasaad5363Ай бұрын
Its about breaking down that previously learned habbit to say react to other dogs by training new behaviours instead. And then when the dogs done it enough it and learnt the new behaviour "pavlov kicks in" which means the behaviour is conditioned permanatly. And once the new behaviour is learnt and understood by the dog thats when you can offer punishment (like an e coller stim) if they ever deviate away from what you taught them
@CCOREY512 күн бұрын
And what if your reactive dog doesn’t want to redirect to come to you? Competing motivators…then what are you left with? Nothing. Your dog had just learned he doesn’t have to listen to you.

The force free purely positive ideology crowd who use leash and collar/harness/halti and don't even realise or accept leash is negative reenforcement Also withholding of floor is negative punishments I spoke to a Purley positive trainer on the phone for a hour and twenty minutes last week was a lovely lady gave me some great information and motivation on my journey training dogs........ But when I started to ask the lady some questions, why her training in her opinion is purely positive even tho she uses a leash and withholds food After many probing questions the lady answered which she didn't have to do and I was very grateful for her honesty and openness The long and short of it is, her parents beat her a lot as a child now she has a deep emotional attachment to anything physical being hugely bad and emotional damaging This lady is charging around £100 for her to come and project her childhood baggage and emotional damage on to ur dog.................. Thats the typical kinda thing u find with that crowd total emotion overload no logic or common sense We life in a physical body so do dogs were physical creatures Punishment is not bad as long as is proportional to the specific behavioral and ur not over doing it abusing ur dog it's common sense and logical Makes no sense, lots of these Purley positive people are nothing but con merchants taking advantage of nieve pet owners to the tune of hundreds if not thousands of pounds at a time preying on uninformed people emotions Its wrong

"Emotions cannot be reinforced" must be one of the most commonly used phrases in dog training today. For me, it's a complete contradiction. Just look at counter-conditioning, where we aim to increase or strengthen a positive emotion towards something!
