I think the overlap in the back is because the newer dolls have smaller chests. It looks great!

The idea of cutting out the darts is a great idea. Ive always just used a tracing wheel and tracing paper, but as you can imagine, after a couple times, the pattern gets pretty chewed up. Im also a fan of topstitching on jeans etc just as I would do on human-sized clothing. In fact, like you, i like my dolls' clothing to be as realistic as possible, so that means working pockets, zippers in dresses, lined coats eyc

I've made this dress in a light cotton fabric. I found that serging the hem edge of the ruffle made it easier to press under for some reason. I love that you used denim for this dress!!
@its_a_dolls_life10 күн бұрын
@johannaholmgren8088 this is actually one of my favorite dresses and I love denim dresses!

@its_a_dolls_life I have some light denim fabric, I'm definitely going to make this again in that. Thanks so much for the idea!!

This is a great pattern to make a reversible circle skirt.
@johannaholmgren808810 күн бұрын
I made this using a T shirt knit. I finally also figured out to use tissue paper under the fabric because of the tinyness of the pieces. Thanks for the suggestion to use a ponte knit. Ill give that a try too. Im also looking at a stretch lace over a flesh toned knit. I'm also going to apply a very thin strip of lightweight interfacing to the back extensions to support them for snaps next time. The second bodysuit (white) definitely looks like it was easier to manage!)
@its_a_dolls_life10 күн бұрын
Yes, interfacing over the back extensions are definitely a good idea! I love the idea of a stretch lace over a flesh-toned knit! That would look awesome!

You make it look so much less scary. I'm hand sewing and it takes me alot longer and my stitches aren't as neat as a machine but you are giving me the confidence to really push myself

I've been looking at this piece for a while. Just trying to choose fabrics....I think it would look good with a green velvet skirt and white top. Also, I trim the darts a bit after sewing so that there's less bulk.
@its_a_dolls_life16 күн бұрын
Oh those colors and fabric combo sound fantastic! I also think the bodice can be fitted better. I followed the pattern as written and it seems to be a reprint from an older pattern. I definitely want to tweak some of these patterns for better fit/ construction of the garment.

Great job. I made the skirt as well as the bodysuit.

I have this pattern. I did what you're doing, taken the the bottoms of the overalls, added pockets and turned them into jeans. I also have made the little peaaant top, holy cow that was tricky! Ill have to do it again in order to get more practice with it. My next foray into the Barbie and Ken line is going to be some pants and jackets for Ken.
@its_a_dolls_life17 күн бұрын
Yes, that's what I would love to do as well. I really enjoy sewing on such a small scale! It can be really tricky and it's so satisfying when you can accomplish it.

Ive got several pf the same patterns. I have a very old pattern (original so vintage) for Barbie/11.5 inch dolls from the early 70s. That McCalls pattern (M6258?) though....I dont know if yours is the same, but mine arrived missing an entire page or more of construction directions! I assumed it was just a one-off, so I reordered it, but the second one was exactly the same....meaning I have to figure out how to sew the patterns without instructions. I have quite a stash of patterns now, including a couple of books (which include the patterns for all the Barbie figure types) created by a French fashion designer for Barbie. I've also hunted down patterns for Ken too. (Especially since he has fewer clothing options than Barbie, lol) Also, this is a funny coincidence: that 6208 pattern has a name written on it...that's MY first name, haha!!
@its_a_dolls_life17 күн бұрын
oh that's so unfortunate! Have you tried contacting customer service at Simplicity.com? They may be able to send you the full instructions. I would love to get a hold of that book! Some of the patterns are reprints from older ones, I think. I wish they would design and put more out!

@@its_a_dolls_lifeHi just a quick update on the pattern that came without sewing instructions (entire page not printed): I had ordered that pattern from Amazon. I ordered it a second time to see if it was just a one off but nope, so I returned that one. Then I decided to order straight from the company, Simplicity and see how that went. Lo and behold the pattern arrived with complete instructions!!! I'm giddy with excitement!! Anyway it was your suggestion to contact Simplicity that made me decide to order straight from them (to see if it was a problem with the actual company's patterns). I have no explanation for why the Amazon one came incomplete, but I'm just glad to have all the instructions because it was the cape that was missing. Of course. Lol.
