The man who almost singlehandedly destroyed the Southern Baptist Convention is here to lecture me on how to detect and deal with fake preachers and avoid them. At the SBC convention in 1980 when he was presiding officer a committee issued a report and made several suggestions to several agencies. A member gained the floor and moved that a name be substituted for another. Stanley then violated the rights of all convention members by not only disallowing the member's motion to be voted on, an egregious error, but when the convention exploded with hundreds of calls for a motion to Appeal he disallowed the motion and refused to state it as proper parliamentary procedure requires, another egregious error. As a result of this incident it caused the split in the Southern Baptist Convention and hundred of churches eventually left. Yeah, Charles Stanley was such a cutesy nice dude. As an aside, one convention delegate sued Stanley in federal court but the judge dismissed the case in minutes because it was not based on any federal law. The one thing Stanley he never did was to apologise for violating the rights of the 1980 SBC convention delegates on two occasions. Isn't that such a sweet little attitude? Forty-five years goes by and nasty stuff was as though they did not occur.
