When you are in 'New Game' or 'Load Game', select Arcade Mode, and here select 'Add a player' and you will get a message saying "press any button", do this on the second controller and it will automatically connect.

5 countries, but 6 characters to unlock. collect every golden crown in any map of every country (usually 40) to unlock extra characters. when you obtain every golden crown from each country, you will get "snowboarding lessons fron shaun white", and most likely unlock him (idk). there are 6 characters but only 5 countries to get every golden crown. so, i assume you can get shaun white aswell.. haven't completed the game yet, i'll update when i do, (100%)
