Have the flat dust collection piece of plastic in my saw now and dust doesn't make it out of the saw well. Have already used David Patterson method of closing up the rear. Just order the big gulp and was glad I watched your video cause now I know it will not fit into saw without cutting the bottom sheet metal so you can fit it up into the space. Thanks for saving me a whole lot of time.

The flex from the relief is my only concern. Both fences should take care of that though. All my pieces are cut. Just thinking about where to track it out.
@ChristcrossCraftsАй бұрын
Adding the curve to mine reduced weight. I was nervous that would cause a lack of support and allow for more flex but it didn't. The aluminum runners front to back and the fences from side to side have kept it flat. I hang it on the wall and don't leave it leaning.

Just finished a similar install of two racks with modified height. One on each side of a double door garage. Wish I was faster like you as it took me like 4 hours just to cut down and prep the 16 different legs with an angle grinder cut disk. I was afraid of rust so ended spray painting the cut ends. I also had to account for that extra clearance at the front while the door is still opening. Lucky I caught it in the initial measurements as I had not seen this video yet. Thanks for sharing.

I am waiting to get into a shop. When I do, first thing I am going to build is a 4'x4' Microjig table top, and a smaller microjig sled, and, see how I like it. I am certain I will be building a lot more jigs once I do that. I have a large sled now, had to make it out of plastic plywood, because, I have to work out under a tarp/carport at the moment, so, have to keep my tools put up or rust, etc.. Portable dust collection, Tables, Sawhorses, accurize all of my tools, and start filling the shop up with hand built tools. Store purchase a few here and there, but, for the money, Disk, Belt Sanders, etc, I prefer to build my own.. And, I have an idea for a rotating spindle sander with adjustable table, which will use one motor to drive each of the different size spindles on a carousel. Can't wait to get situated and start building. I can get away with metal building, but, wood is a waste of time right now.. Sucks, but, lets see what happens in November and Jan 20th, before I take what I have been saving for 20 years and drop it on such a big investment.. Ha... Cheers, keep it up.. I see you doing all sorts of cool things with the matchfit.. Cool uses building the picture frames.. :)

I like your idea but my application will be different. I will be getting rid of the lower leg supports and building the saw carriage into a 4’ X 8’ table. My idea is to bolt the carriage onto a sheet of plywood and building a box that will enclose the motor. My feelings are that the box will always have negative pressure which will keep the motor cool and I can add maybe a 2” hole in the box that will low more air flow inside the box keeping the motor cool. I can put an adjustable door over the hole to give me better control over how much air flow the enclosed box will have and the box will give me clearance to tilt the motor flor miters.

Yeah, there are several build videos for that sort of application.

Good video Chris. However I noticed in your video you have the same issue I am trying to solve. During the carve, the Oramask is being removed from the center of the "A" on the small text. I have the problem with "O, P, D", etc. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on how to stop this from happening?
@ChristcrossCrafts2 ай бұрын
The smaller and more detailed, the harder that is to stop. More open grained and porous woods make it worse. Sanding it smooth, removing all dust, and properly squeegeeing the mask is the best method I've found. A sharp bit with the right speeds also helps.

Generally speaking, most of these door lock cylinders have numbers on them. You might still have to tear it apart to find the cylinder number, but once you do you can just order the correct keys, which is much cheaper than rekeying or replacing. YOU'RE WELCOME!!!
@ChristcrossCrafts3 ай бұрын
Well, that's all well and good. If you are a new owner and the previous owner still may have a key, I'd rather rekey or replace it. Good to know, though.

You could even get a little more depth by sort of sliding shelf flush to wall by cutting out slots around studs for actual shelf... not much, but every bit counts!!
@ChristcrossCrafts4 ай бұрын
In my shop, I did just that and also built shelves between the studs. Here, I didn't because I'm using the gap behind the shelves and between the studs to prevent tool handles (shovels, rakes, etc.) From falling.

Great video, although I do have a couple of questions. 1. What is the v-carve type bit you're using? 2. What is the depth of the cuts? it seems a single v-carve is doing the single job. 3. What seal did you use? Can it be used on paint? I'm trying to paint the wood black, use the oramask to carve out lettering then applying different coloring. but it seems I need to cut them out first? I appricate your time and video. Cheers.
@ChristcrossCrafts6 ай бұрын
1) that is my go-to 60v bit spectra from Amana 2) they vary based on the width of the font lines. In vectric, it has a toolpath called "v-carve" which bases the depth on font line width, bit used, and depth is varied automatically. 3) any sealer works. If using Lacquer, then seal with lacquer sealer. If something else, shellac works well. Paint or seal, then oramask. Cut out letters for the first color, then reapply oramask. Cut 2nd color, and repeat as needed.
