Not a single stick of reinforcement bar in the slab.
@on4amgАй бұрын
@garycook5125 The calculation of the load and potential forces exercised on the slab in combination with the concrete mix used showed this was not necessary in this particular case. My first tower on another site stood on a similar slab for 30 years without any problem. This one is still going strong after 12 😉

How much did the whole project cost please and would it be a similar price for a fixed (none-telescopic) tower?
@on4amg3 жыл бұрын
This project is nearly a decade old so any pricing would no longer be relevant because of labour/material prices that have risen. Additionally, there are many variables to be taken into account: height of the tower, new or second hand, willingness/capability to do the ground works yourself (or not), dependency upon concrete pump and/or crane and possible local community taxes for the delivery of the construction permit (when applicable) ... Please plan the project carefully and get in touch with the stakeholders and/or a general contractor who can carry out the project on your behalf. I am sure they will be ready to make you a detailed proposal.

Hi Guy. Fantastic job. I would like to know the dimension of the concrete base for that height. I am working on a similar project and any information is useful to me to use conservative measures. Thanks Greetings from Ed.
@on4amg4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed, thanks! The concrete base is 1,80 m x1,80 m x1,80 m. This works out to hold about 6 m3 of concrete. The ground is heavy clay so this construction is not going anywhere :-)

@on4amg7 жыл бұрын
Well spotted! Actually they made a calculation mistake hence they needed to loosen one of the supporting arms, this is what you see in the video. Since I was not actually very happy with this, they did some re-engineering which resulted in the complete replacement of the supporting structure (using a larger steel beam and supporting arms) which was installed at their expense. The whole thing is rock solid now and able to cope with the forces when tilting down a fully loaded tower.

No, that winching mechanism for the tilting action is manual anyway (the one for extending the tower is motorized). It was rather cold and wet that day, you may have seen some sweat/water evaporation LOL

Hi Jake, as I mentioned before, rules and regulations are quite different around the world :-) Not so happy with all of the involvement of the different governemental levels either but hey, I am a law abiding citizen. Talking to my fellow US based ham radio colleagues I hear things are not necessarily easier over there. Sure, it took a bit of work and a long time before the administrative process was finished but things got approved in the end so I am a happy camper.

What are the concrete plugs under the mounting frame? Are these cores that go into the ground to help stabilise the tower? Very interested in this, and will watch the rest of your tower install. ZL1KFM.
@on4amg10 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, I put in this cores (actually constructed out of about a foot of heavy thick wall pvc pipe filoled with concrete) for two reasons: 1. To ensure the positioning of the steel construction (which you can see in the video) to which to bolts securing the tower base are attached were perfectly level 2. To secure the steel construction (part of it was cemented in) to prevent it from moving when pouring the concrete. The wooden planks also serve the same purpose.

All that money spent and no electric winch to stand it up? Hmmm.
@WelshWidgetMan2O1O11 жыл бұрын
I bet your neighbors wondered why they didn't object the review meeting after this went up - wouldn't doubt if some of them claimed they never got a notice about it. Even though everybody knows good and well you're putting up a tower in your back yard and didn't object to it, they usually wait until it's all finished and installed to raise their concerns.
@on4amg11 жыл бұрын
Not so in Belgium. Apart from being subject of a long administrative process in which the neighbors are automatically involved, a detailed case has to be made available to the public for consultation.

Those are thermoplastic tubes with a smooth inside surface used to feed coaxial cable for the antennas and potentially other auxiliary cables from the lightening protection cabinet to the base of the mast. Standard PVC tubes would do equally well.

Everything is properly licensed and was subject to an administrative procedure during which the neighbors had plenty of opportunity to object before obtaining authorization from local and state authorities. End to end it took over a year and a lot of effort (I had to personally prepare and develop the entire case) but it was worth the wait. A pro active approach towards the neighbors duly informing them really helps too !
