Perhaps someone could inform me why a pipe band with an obviously Irish name from Chicago (USA), inside a Catholic church named after the patron Saint of Ireland with the Irish tricolour flag on display are dressed-up for the occasion in Scottish Highland Dress with tartan kilts and playing the Scottish "Great Highland War Pipes" which are associated directly with Scotland? Are they not aware that Ireland has is own unique style of kilt (which is certainly not the above) as part of it's own uniquely special National dress as well as its own unique design of bagpipes called the Uilleann pipes. Sad, as it gives this event a "theme park" atmosphere.

C. in poi. Diffondendosi dalla Spagna all'Anatolia ( attuale Turchia); dalle Ixole Britanniche all' Europa Centro Orientale ( attuale Francia, Ungheria, fascia alpina ). Nell 'Italia Settentrionale ( Lombardia , Emilia Romagna). I Greci li chiamarano GALATI ; i Romani GALLI. Così erano i miei tre zii paterni. Auguri ancora ❤

Yes they're very aware. It was all adopted in the later 1800s as part of the Gaelic Revival in Ireland. The only thing wrong here is the musicality/tuning could/should be a bit tighter.

Why don't you drop a line to the St Lawrence O'tool pipe band and run it by them, either you're a tròll or trying to big it up and failing miserably......

@@AirplaneDoctor_: Sorry, I don't know the exact meaning of a "Troll", but I have a notion it was meant to be a disparaging remark? However, if you enter the following into the search facility, Little Drummer Boy by the 2013 Defence Forces Christmas Carol Service, you will see how proper Irish people, proud of their heritage, dress in their own unique style of National kilt and associated dress. This is at some variance to the pastiche shown in this video whereby we have (probably) Americans, pretending to be Irish, dressing-up as Scots. Please forgive them Lord, they know not what they are doing.

@@stuartmccall5474I am now taking a guess you are neither a piper or drummer by your comments as you actually seem ill informed about piping in Ireland. By your logic because the RRS wears government tartan, it should be worn by everyone in Scotland. Saffron is worn by Irish regiments both north and south as well as Irish affiliated regiments in various commonwealth countries. Civilian pipe bands in Ireland are rarely kitted out in saffron but instead a tartan or colour they chose, so an American band can wear whatever they wish.
@stuartmccall5474
@stuartmccall5474 9 ай бұрын
@@AirplaneDoctor_ : I totally agree with your assertion that, "an American band can wear whatever (Tartan) they wish." as there is no "tartan police" to stop anyone wearing what tartan they like, but the salient point you have totally missed is that it then becomes purely a pastiche of Scottish National Dress at best, or fancy dress at worst. Regarding the RRS, they have their OWN VERSION of the "Black Watch" tartan, but this is NOT what you have alluded to as the (British) Government tartan, which is the ACTUAL Black Watch tartan, this particular pattern now being considered as free for everyone to wear without any formal association with the holder. "Scottish" Pipe Bands, notably the Gurkhas, Hong Kong Police (previously RHKP), Jordanian Military and Omani Military etc., wear tartans linked to previously close associations with Scottish Military Unit's own tartan, in most cases this being a historical Clan tartan. Ditto with Commonweath Nations. Anyway, the individuals here seem to be having a good time, be it either in Pastiche or fancy dress form.

Very nice. Thank you. I grew up in Chicago but am now in Wyoming. My connection to the Chicago Irish is that my father grew up in the Irish neighborhood at 54th and Halsted in the early 20th century. Even though he was a Swede he could do a perfect Irish brouge from all the Irish immigrants he was surrounded by as a boy.

The Rovers have become a second family to our daughters, drummer Katie and piper Meagan - these musicians play with heart and bring joy to people all over Chicagoland. There are plenty of other bands who play only for awards... but for 95 years this group has shared smiles and tears here and abroad, tapping into their Irish heritage. Here's to many more years with the Shannon Rovers!
