crack pipe lighter and some pipe solder and ur ready to go like hunter biden...haha, just kidding. Seriously so that line coming off the mechanical pump line coming off the top of the pump is for simply seeing if your fuel pump diaphragm is leaking externally? Happy boating friend!

Cobbled fuel systems in an enclosed area equals ???? Getting it running makes it a mobile weapon. What happens when that lites off at the fuel dock. Spend the money to do it right or park it til you can afford to. I’ve seen exploded boats your life or your neighbors kids lives who wanted a boat ride are worth it.

there's alot of haters on here... there are 2 kinds of mechanics in the world that are useful the ones that will work with the high end stuff and are school taught that use math and science for every question & problem & can build you a rocket then there is your farm style mcgiver mechanic a resourceful guy that can work on anything anywhere at anytime like this guy here.. he is making due with what he gots the type of guy that wont be sidelined on a big weekend over some b.s. engine part a small autozone and a cheap non off brand tool set with missing tools and he good to go ....i grew up with both these mechanics in my life my grandfather was a master tech that got started in the pan american races in the 50's in mexico and my father that was a Jack of all trades that could take 2 busted old cars and make a runner.. both fed me knowledge both had there style that help shape mine ....if it work then it works ....GREAT JOB MA BOY!! FIRE IT UP ITS BOATING TIME 😎😉

If we run a hose to get some fresh water flowing into those type of outboards but the engine is not running will it overfill any areas that shouldn't have water...I just wanted to drain the water out thr bottom of the block to flush some rust out....I didn't see any water flowing out anywhere when I turn the water on...

Never wire an electric fuel pump directly to ignition. It must be wired thru an "oil pressure switch!

Although this guy is tremendously resourceful, his solution has issues...the silicone as sealer will breakdown overtime by the gasoline... so there's a danger of leak there... boat catch fire!

There's no gasoline going to the old pump. It's just there to seal the block from leaking

The term “knowing enough to be dangerous” applies. Don’t do this gang! Look up uscgboating.org Always check that your anti siphon valve is not clogged (at top of tank) there may be a screen in the elbow ahead of it. Replace, don’t leave out that valve. If it had a mechanical pump replace it with the same (marine type only) far cheaper, safer and should outlast the boat at this point if there isn’t something wrong between it and the tank.

Ok, the only DIfference is that you are running the engine on part 7 and on part 2 and 3 you weren't. How do we know if it wasnt squatting out before because you didnt run the engine before. Im just trying to learn. I have overheating issue, but want to trouble shoot correctly.
@UptownFights
@UptownFights 5 жыл бұрын
Right here? Wasnt the water coming out the bottom left port of the waterpump area on part 2? Didnt you do the exact same thing? Dont understand how you got it coming out the bottom now. Did you put your garden hose on a different tube?
@chrisbates3422
@chrisbates3422 Жыл бұрын
yeah. he had hose switched to the inlet of the sterndrive to flush the debris out of it.
@UptownFights
@UptownFights 5 жыл бұрын
Im a little confused. In Part 2 and part 3, did you run the water hose from the same tube inside before the power steering cooler each time and got two results? Here you got water coming out the water pump left bottom port, but later in part 3 you do the exact same thing and no water coming out the nipple on the water pump cover? Well if there's water coming out the first time and its all the same chamber why wouldn't it come out the top with the cover on? Also I think its part 7 where you get water coming out of the nipple, but you are definitely running the engine, and you didn't run it in Part 2 and 3? I know this is old, but I am researching like crazy why my 1990 Four Winns Liberator 221 OMC King Cobra 454 is overheating and causing vapor lock. My boat randomly shuts off when running around 195ish temp and wont turn on until its cool. I see the gas vaporize when I manually put it in carb when off thinking it was a carb issue with no luck. I was thinking maybe my Snipper Coils are getting hot and not sending spark. Cant figure it out. I want to try to flush my waterpump lines like you did, but dont understand why you did it not running and then only when it was runnning it was working.

Steel fuel line? Should be copper/nickel alloy OR the newer marine type A1 hose over the engine. Copper, copper/nickle or A1 hose for the rest of the boat, NOT steel. Fuel pumps must be marine type AND mounted on a bracket on or within 12" of the engine. Filters must be mounted and can not have plastic, glass or Pyrex for housing or bowl components on gasoline inboards. Electric fuel pumps must have some type of safety interlock in the event the engine quits the pump must also stop. Usually wired to a oil pressure switch and may also be connected the start side of the ignition switch to help prime the system quicker (time out cuircuit recommended). Crimp connect wires and over cover with adhesive lined heat shrink tubing is best. Please be safe all.

I have an OMC cobra 2.3 liter it's a1988, it will run great for the first 20 minutes or so, then the rpm's will bounce an it will die, and not start back up, till it rests for a while. temp never gets over 175 f. when it does start up again it will only run at a low rpm. I checked the impeller, it looks good, any ideas?
