Umm If age of empires is the same mechanics of Civ then yes. I haven't played Age of Empires but this is definitely a monumental city building game. (oddly enough I just realized this is called Monumental edition). Probably one of the best I've played when it comes to all the mechanics of a video game added to a board game). However my editor Brian didn't care for it as much, expected more combat and this game isn't a combat game though it does have combat mixed in.

Hmmm I'll have to look into this, I don't recall any issues myself or the groups I played with had with it. It might have rule changes made, components, etc. Hard to say. It's also been 6 months so I'd have to get a refresher. I thought this game was funded a bit ago...Doesn't help that I just woke up so I'm on 1/2 brain mode.

So pick the best side on the beginning. Clean it, go to swers, clean it, same for the top locations (pick just one and stick to it). You will finish the game in the last day, going to the boss

@ Oh really, that's interesting, I have to try that tactic, most of our battles have been extremely hard fought, have you beat the game going with 4/5 traveling both paths?

Yeah "Is it really worth loosing friends" is a question you gotta ask yourself if you're willing to truly enjoy this title :P I'd suggest seriously informing people before you play that their in for a long brutal game of lies betrayal and heavy thinking.

He is american so does not surprise me that mutch, he probably thinks America is the west and all the rest is east

One of the podcasts I listen to played the same way. Sounds like a blast to me. All that time during the week to strategize and the tension of waiting to see how it turned out has to be amazing

It's definitely one of the meanest games out there - lying directly to someone's face while planning their demise is hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time.

We would run at least one campaign a year when we were in college back around 7 years or so ago. It would span over the course of a week or so and we’d make one move a day. With the age of smartphones, it made behind the scenes communication much easier. Miss those days but I just bought this so maybe I can introduce my current friend group to it.

So to my knowledge he has a pretty wide range unlike a lot of designers (but a shorter list of titles to his name) - Endless Winter definitely has that mini game feel but I feel that's more Jonny Pac's style of design. This game is definitely a heavy mechanical euro but the only thing I'd relate to mini game in nature is the fact that it has area control after dice drafting. The rest of the game involves moving up tracks, playing and gathering cards and storing them to improve your engine. The main aspects to Minos are controlling locals and acquiring the resources to build on your tableau to improve your engine and gain points. I enjoyed Rurik: Dawn of Kieve, Old West Empresario - heard good things about Dice Hospital (but likely a little more of a family game). Otherwise I don't really have a ranking for his games. I'd say the two games I named are definitely different than this one by a mile though.

@@UnfilteredGamer Thanks for explaining that. Not putting Minos on my radar yet. You might be right about Jonny Pac's touches on EW. Rurik is another example, though, of the "mini-game" being the game. The one I'm exploring right now is Nova Roma. I probably would have bought it a long time ago, but the Kordonskiy name stopped me. I think he's talented, but his games just might not be for me . . . until I find one that is.

@@jacobjslee Oddly enough I've got Nova Roma on my table as we speak! Yeah I'd suggest giving a playthrough of this game a watch or at least a round since it is rather long - it should tell you the type of game and mechanical aspects to expect. It doesn't have any easily spotted inherent flaws but you might find it to have a bit of a mini game feel, I'm pretty used to games like Jonny Pacs which are littered with mini games (Sierra West, Merchants Cove, Endless Winter) or have portions of mechanics surrounding each action that collimates to a specific function. This ones definitely on the lighter side of that kind of thing but not completely without it.
