The great Toy Caldwell would pass away a little over four months later - February 25, 1993. I had the great honor of seeing him in February 1991 - a night I will never forget - RIP the great songwriter, guitar player!

I’m so glad that you retrieved your fiddle from the museum. It represents a wonderful connection between your childhood/adolescence and now, something evermore important 😊the older we get, I think. I remember when you shared the outside of the old house in north Seattle with us along with what your childhood was like and how it guided you to the the fiddle and guitar. (Suddenly, I also remember those beautiful and moving improvisations at the beginning of Covid, when we were all locked away from each other. Perfection, I thought both then and now. ) Keep the white-painted fiddle until the end, sir. It represents too much of your life, like a timeline, kind of. My feeling, badly expressed I’m sure, whenever I see you play on it.

Thank you Mark for this report about your old neighborhood and your story. We are fairly new residents here of 8 years. Yes indeed many if not most of the houses built along 56th Ave and elsewhere in Mountlake Terrace are considered what are called by municipalities as derelect houses or derelect properties. Too bad. However, I'm sure those derelect houses / properties are 100% in rental service and owners are living elsewhere and they never check on their rental houses nor do they care. It is a slap-in-the-face of residents of MT who keep their properties respectable and then to have to see the derelect houses and properties. This week I plan to visit MT City Hall to see what can be done to mitigate the problem of derelect properties. Yes, I did grow up in Seattle in a community that would never allow houses to go into derelection such as the case here in MT. All the best in your music career Mark!

This is a lovely treatment of this very old carol! Just beautiful! I would not consider this “bluegrass”; I would consider it “timeless”! Thank you!

Doug Kershaw was one of the first non-classical musicians I ever heard. And this was the song he was playing. That fiddle is simply an extension of his body! Mark O'Connor brings out the best when he plays. Ricky Scaggs is another phenomenal fiddler. Kershaw is now playing with other greats we've lost❤
