Did you figure out how much platinum or costly/rare Pt-group metals do they need (per kW, per vehicle, etc...) for a methanol HT-PEM fuel cell ? This is an issue I don't see to be adressed (correct me if wrong...). Is there a chance can be lowered enough to be inferior to that, for example, of an IC engine vehicle for ordinary petrol or Diesel catalylizers (say, about 5 to 10 grams per vehicle, if we include platinum+ rhodium+palladium) ?

In addition to e-methanol there is microbial methanol, made using biocatalysis where inputs are converted directly to methanol at ambient temperature and pressure. (This is different from "bio methanol" is essentially steam-cooking of wood chips, followed by cleanup, then back to classic methods.) This microbial methanol also needs to be included in the dialogue.

The claimed range of trucks at 300 miles for BEV is possibly a non-problem for many truck applications since the legal maximum time between stop / rest is 4 hours. Truck speed is regulated to 56 mph in Europe - so 200 miles is about your limit without a charging opportunity. A hybrid FC and electrical road system seems more likely. The point about government assistance is not a great argument since all industries inc fossils have some sort of subsidy or start-up assistance. A universal fuel source that is readily available? Maybe, but only if the cost can be levelled.

Green methanol has potantial for marine application. Gas turbine, steam turbine, dmfc coud be a good power unit which used methanol as a fuel. Steam turbine is more possible. Methanol can burned at external compustion chamber easily for producing steam. Steam which is produced at external combustion chamber drives steam turbine.
