It's the same with others artists, man...

There's a big difference, many US artists from the past just needed ONE GOOD song to see the top again. Some found the right song and prospered. Haley was constitutionally incapable of change and did not project an image that would have been transitional to audiences that had seen a parade of younger, more genre'/ visually appropriate artists starting with Elvis. In the pre internet pre satellite TV days, it took a while for an artist's work to reach overseas audiences. Foreign Markets ( that's what the business called anything not eminating in USA),had NO point of reference whatsoever, beyond few scatter shot discs brought in via shipping or military personnel. In the 1950's whatever market was opening for American Rock& Roll be beyond North America itself had five or more years of catching up to do. Eastern Europe and beyond, due to cultural constrictions regarding "Western Culture" lagged ten or more years behind. Non withstanding the fact that US records were bootlegged in Soviet era Russia, "pressed" on old X-ray plates, there would have been virtually NO CHANCE any US artist could have had any commercial presence in Eastern Bloc countries. That all being said, Haley provided the FIRST IN PERSON presence to much of Europe and by extension ( X-ray pressings) to Eastern Europe. Haley's tours of Britian and later the continent provided a first look at what was already old news in the US. It was timely for Haley inasmuch he was washed up in America as an influential artist. The very foundations of his act, somewhat vaudeville rooted, a sound that leaned more to Dixieland elements rather than urban blues forms, utterly inofensive lyrics, gave first time audiences an at best watered down version of what was really going on in the music then. No matter, much of the British Invasion acts got their start on the heels of his records and tours. Once Haley opened up the Euro Markets for ( some facsimile of) Rock music, other artists followed, notably Holly, Little Richard, Vincent, Lewis ( infamously) and others. By this point, audiences outside the US began to see something closer to real time with the state of the music. Meanwhile, Haley, who had developed a loyal fan base that no longer existed in USA, relentlessly toured and broke into the South American market. He continued to make records mostly in Mexico often in Spanish, starred in films for Spanish speaking markets as well as German films. BUT IN ANY LANGUAGE OR SETTING, it was him doing what got him forgotten about quickly in America. The same corny act, songs delivered in was mostly described as a " Lumpy Beat" and by now, TEN YEARS AND BEYOND BEHIND anything that was going in in American Rock&Roll. In 1974,twenty years almost to the day that Rock Around The Clock was first released in the US, Haley was again on the charts with RATC, released once again. Audiences could see a virtual time capsule, an unchanged act from now a distant time. To his credit and to his detriment, HE NEVER CHANGED. Far too much water had now passed under the bridge that is Rock music. Much of what passed under that bridge was on the back of what he had done by 1956. Even in US, he could still sell tickets, but as an "OLDIES" act. Elsewhere, he would be celebrated as the first look that many got of a new music, no matter if that first look took years to see.
