My dad had the exact same car like this one with the dark green exterior and gold interior accept his was a 1995. It was a good car and him and I sure miss it but unfortunately he had to get rid of it after owning it for a good 12 years and driving it especially in winter weather and through many snowfalls it rusted out really bad.

Oof! So sorry it rusted out! I previously had a white 94 LSS with 360K miles which rusted out under the back seat. Sold it to a college student who was riding his bike to work in the winter. He was delighted, and his dad was a mechanic so they probably rigged something. This green one is nearly rust-free - lots of shiny green paint underneath. I have too much money in it (had it re-painted last year) but its fun to drive. Blessings to you!

You almost nailed it. All you needed to show is how you put together the plate with the three springs and the actual mounting on the column to secure it. It looks easy. I know. But to those unfamiliar with this system, it would have been a killer video to show every single step of the procedure. Thanks.

Way too much unnecessary work just order the gm vats bypass resistor kit and measure the resistance of the raised chip on the key and then find the resistor that matches it and loop it on the ignition wire running to the TDS under the dash, it tricks the computer to read that resistor instead of the key in the ignition, hope this helps people like me who still drive these beasts. Love and peace to you all❤️

I cant seem to find these bypass module you are talking about. Is it possible to do something to the blue wire, so it would mimic what the pcm looks for fuel enable ? I already got the starter part fixed
@billb6899 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delayed reply, hope you got it going. PCM is looking for a pulsed signal so you do need some sort of replacement module. The company that made the one I used doesn't make them anymore but there are others out there, possibly with easier installation. This one still works, but I've got a permanent code for VATS failure. No MIL, though.

i know this an old video, i have also a 1994 oldsmobile 88 with 129,000 miles i was planning on just doing the bypass on the steering column wires. my question is what color or wires is the one that comes from the ignition any help is appreciated thanks!

Orange, DO NOT cut the yellow wire unless you feel like getting sucker punched by your car it goes to the airbag

My 67 camaro is the very same setup, Same thing happened to me, I thought oh man this going to be scary to have to pull the bearing just to get to the fallen springs, I dived in and it all turned out okay. Thanks for the video.

What gauge wire did you use to jumper the starter relay?
@billb68994 жыл бұрын
Actually I forgot. Just don't undersize it though - it will supply current to the starter relay.

Hi Bill, hope you doing good, by any chance do you know if baker electronix company, are still processing orders? Because I try to contact them, with a email and I haven’t received response, thanks for sharing the video, it was helpful
@billb68994 жыл бұрын
Thanks! No, Baker did in fact close shop in 2018. I have another video on bypassing VATS in a 1994 Oldsmobile, in the description I talk about some of the other companies making similar products. Good luck!

how did you go about hooking up the module
@DCHutchins5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, my 67 Camaro has a similar set up. I had the situ that the blinker would cancel out the brake lights, but if you jiggled the turn signal stalk the brake lights would glow, just degraded and worn 52 yr old plastic. Is a complex column though!

I’m working on a 67 tempest , I have tail lights but no brake lights and I know the turn signal switch is bad , I bet the switch is causing the problem .

on a 96 Cadillac Seville STS do you have to have the key for the door to open for the first part of the security system to unlock cuz mine will never shut off unless I unlock the door otherwise I keep going no matter what I did so I lost my keys I need to get another door key so I can look back security system and then I still got to unlock the door to get it to stop

Thanks to all who have watched! '90's GM FWD cars with 3800s are worth saving. And you might get a sweet deal if you find one selling cheap because the PassKey failed and you know how to fix it. Sadly, this Buick's brake lines rusted out and combined with serious body rust and other issues it made sense to send it to the scrapper. Hard decision - it ran great, rode like you were on a cloud, and even the AC worked! Stripped lots of little things off the car first, including the VATS bypass module. I'm currently working on putting that same module in another car I bought recently. Making a video on that, going into more detail. Will link when it's done. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKWqd6inqqt5qa8 Starter enable relay location on current car (Olds) makes the Buick seem like a walk in the park! Baker closed shop in 2018, website says they still offer product support. Noticed other modules on eBay and Amazon, priced < $20 but I've never tried one.
@xavierthomasson73216 жыл бұрын
What did you run ur wires to
@billb68996 жыл бұрын
Sorry for late reply - Only 3 wires, output is to blue wire that formerly connected to PassKey module. Then ground, of course. Power to the bypass module is from the like that formerly supplied voltage to the control side of the bypassed relay (diver's side dash) that is "on" whenever the key is "on." Baker closed shop a few months ago, but there are similar modules on eBay and Amazon.

Hi Bill B. Thanks for the video. I have a 1992 Buick Park Avenue that has the same problem. It would always crank, but no start. The one time I did get it to start, it died after 3 seconds and the security light was flashing. I ordered this module before finding your video. On a Buick forum, I found out that the yellow and black wire from the module just needs to be grounded for it to let it crank. And I could get ignition power from the pink wire. Funny enough though, the security light goes off when I hook the blue wire to the blue wire, not the green like yours. Which is weird since we have the exact same pass-key module ( part number an all ), you'd think they'd transmit the same signal. My car still won't start. Do you thin it's possible I have the wrong blue wire? Did the blue wire you hooked to come out of the plug that connects to the module, and was it beside the pink wire? Or was this too long ago to remember?

Wish I would have found your video and Baker Electronix 7 or 8 months ago. Bright side I didn't put any miles on the '91 Eldo with less than 100K this year. Mice did some damage with it sitting so long though.

Thanks for the vid, Bill! Been trying to troubleshoot my '96 Camaro with that same accursed vats/pass-key/TDM(BCM) system. Been eyeing that Baker module for a while now. This lends me a great deal of confidence in the unit. Is she still running without issue?
@billb68998 жыл бұрын
Car ran great until a couple other problems forced it off the road permanently. Before having it hauled off, I pulled the module in case I need it for another car. Very pleased with how it worked. (Sorry for late reply, had a typo on my KZbin credentials and got locked out.)
