Looks like an amazing lens, but for field sports 300mm is short. I would guess 90% of your photos will be at 300mm. I shoot with the 200-400 f4 and find that I'm shooting at 400mm for 60-70% of my keepers

Great post for nature photography enthusiasts! To make it even more engaging, you could consider adding a specific example of a camera or lens that's particularly well-suited for wildlife shots. Also, mentioning a tip or two for capturing wildlife in action might be helpful for beginners. Keep inspiring outdoor photographers!

Thank you for the review. Looks like a very solid camera. I will be setting precapture to one of the custom shooting modes. As a wildlife photographer I see precapture being very useful. I will also set the frame rate to 20 fps and 30 fps. 30 fps for maximum speed and 20 fps for a longer time before the buffer fills.

Looks like another home run from canon ,despite the naysayers. Personally I am disappointed that there are no zebras for stills, as far as I can work out, it really is a revolutionary way of judging exposure, and like a histogram on steroids.
@jamesseward92632 ай бұрын
A short cut to Pre-Capture would be to set it turned on to you C3 custom function options until Canon comes with a firmware solution to add a dedicated button. Thanks 😊

Thank you for the thorough review. It answers many questions as I preordered the R5 mkII. I wonder if the number of shots in pre-continuous shooting could be limited on purpose, just like it can for continuous shooting? It would certainly limit data card consumption. I also wonder if C1, C2 and C3 can be set up with the pre-continuous shooting being on or off for each case. Did you change your mind about some button presets after you used the camera?

Hello, the R5 II has an integral GPS or not?
@guntherswart94642 ай бұрын
no, the new cameras are running their GPS off of the bluetooth connection with your smart device to save on battery consumption.
@BW_Maher2 ай бұрын
Agree that they need to come up with a quick way to turn pre-capture on and off. In addition, a way to set the number of photos taken rather than a simple 1/2s should be in the works as well.

Thanks for this exhaustive review! You're not the only one complaining about the inability to program pre-capture to a button. The R8 has it so hopefully they do add it to firmware. Super impressive tracking that goose. Hopefully it can track small birds in branches better than the original!

This is what I wanted to hear. I'll grab one to go with the C400 I have coming. Hands on knowledge. I see so many KZbinrs talking smack about specs and they NEVER even shot with it. Damn that burns me.

Excellent review. Live in the UK, but born in Johannesburg and return quite often for holidays. I read elsewhere a suggestion to use a custom (C1 etc) profile, one with pre-continuous shooting enabled and another without as a workaround. That can then, I presume, be changed via a custom button assignment.
@mostlyfinnishlifeeventsand51122 ай бұрын
You REALLY want to check out your audio settings. It's severely clipping. The Rode Wireless Go II withstands far higher audio levels so surely the mike itself isn't a problem. Are you sure you haven't bumped the volumne too much in post?
@thefelixwu2 ай бұрын
No the Rode wlg2 by default is too hot. I immediately turned it down to -24db. I recently bought the DJI 2. It’s amazing.

Thank you for this. Any thoughts how this compared to the R5 with respect to noise, DR and sharpness? What about the blacks and contrasts, they seem more pronounced in the images?
@guntherswart94642 ай бұрын
from some of the reports on the internet it seems there is very little difference from the R5 to the R5ii in terms of DR, but from what I experienced the R5ii has way better ISO handling than the R5.

I used to hate the 24-70 in the first 5 years of my career as a full time pro. The past 3 to 4 years it's the lens I use 95% of the time. I still own a lot of primes, but I hardly use them anynore. The 24-70 is usually at 3.5 or in the studio around f/11. I already tested this out and it's amazing. Might buy this one and never take it off of my camera. Therefore also no need do ever again clean the sensor. My backup camera can then use any specialty lens I might need. The more I know, the more I value ease of use and flexibility. Sounds familiar? I own a 200 2.0 and I have used it once haha. My 70-200 I have used a least a thousand times.
