Does anyone know any organizations that protect raccoons? We have a family of them that are back in our huge apartment complex and a year ago when they were here, we got notices on our doors that they were going to kill the raccoons because we were leaving our trash outside our doors which was making them come to eat. I wish they would have just told people to put their trash in the trash can (it's a huge dumpster that we all walk our trash to each day) or have said that if you don't, we're going to kill the raccoons. But they just went ahead and killed them😧 and said it was because of people putting the trash outside of their door or feeding them. And now they're back and they just go to a big dumpster (where we all throw our trash -there's a dumpster for each building and there are many buildings) and eat from there. I'm really worried that they're going to get killed again. And every time I look for agencies that may help protect them, all I find ways to "get rid" of raccoons! People were also hired to come and spray poison into all the swallow nests for the past three years. I watched the swallows come and build their nest on the opposite side of the wall this year and then I was looking for what happened to them in my camera (because I was so happy they were back but also scared because of what happened the past two years and I can't find help. They built a nest within two days and had their clutch laid) and saw that people had come back with a metal can and a long metal nozzle and sprayed poison right into their nests. This was while the swallows were waiting on their first clutch to be born😢. Swallows eat all the flying insects that people complain about over here. But they're gone and I don't know what's going to happen next year or what I can do to help. But right now, suddenly the raccoons are back and the dumpsters in each of the parking lots for each of the buildings here get really filled up but are taken out daily but they're not cleaned up very well and I know a lot of people love the raccoons and like to leave food for them by the trash and they don't know the racoons are going to get killed for coming to eat. If anyone has any information about how to protect them, that would be really great. I'm hoping there's some organization. This is in Adams County, Colorado. When they came and poisoned them last year, they did it by putting a lot of poison in the water in a place where some water pours and gathers from the tunnels (that the raccoons travel through). After they put stuff in that water, that day and the next day there were dead animals in that water and bird of prey hanging out right there on the ground, not in the water but on the curb for two days. Then people came and removed the dead animals. There were dead birds and other Little critters that must have been coming to drink that water. If anyone has any leads about how to help these sweet raccoon families (or the swallows), that would be great. They're such a family. I would love to take them in but it's not legal here.
