As a brit🇬🇧 i well remember Darrells crash at santa pod. Not having his arm restraints on cost him an arm, but i think he would have been paralysed regardless. Was a horrible time in drag racing.

Jerry Eckman, John Force, and Joe Amato claimed the cold hard cash. But after this Darrell Gwynn took the flight to Great Britain and little did he know that the nightmares that was laying in wait on the exhibition run.

This woman is really stunning! She has really awesome skills for Top Fuel Drag Racing! Personally, I actually have a model kit of her 1992 Jolly Rancher Top Fuel Dragster! But instead of actually building the Top Fuel Dragster itself, I used parts of the kit in building my own model hot rodded '57 Chevy Bel Air nicknamed "Burning Coal". I essentially had 2 different model kits that were frankensteined together: a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air with the engine, rear wheels, rear wing, extra gauges and custom handbrake lever from the 1992 Jolly Rancher Top Fuel Dragster!

Instant subscriber!! I must say that I am 68 years old, and I along with my brother started watching drag racing in the early 70's in the Pomona area. In the summer of 73 we were uprooted by my dad's job to Denver and I joined the army from there. Long story short, last month, together with my brother we attented the Fall Nationals in Enis (Dallas) it was the first race we have seen together in 51 years! And yes it was AWESOME!! Thank you for this great upload I wll be checking your link out for sure. Shouts from Frankfurt, Germany...

I wonder what has happened to Shaun Eddy now since 1991. He could be still alive, or the tumor redeveloped and resurfaced and had passed away far too soon.

which is a good thing, I like that they put the drivers back to shifting those cars manually in 1999, and have done so since.

This was the best how to automotive show ever! The showed the repair step by step. All the so called automotive shows in this day and age show very little hands on work. It's all about drama and nonsense.

Snake fan from the tender age of 4 in 1965 when Dad took me to Pomona for the Winter Nationals. I picked Snake in qualifying as my driver, turned out he won the Winters race in Top Fuel that day & I'd say I made a pretty good pick. Almost 30yrs later, I sat with Dad & my own 7yr old Son in those same grandstand's to watch Snake one last time behind wheel. Thanks POP for everything, & Thanks Snake for a great-great 29yr ride 👍 Btw, my Son picked his own guy that day back in 94, some guy called "John BRUTE Force" guess Sonny picked a pretty good one himself 😂👍

@@shelbysolko7783 🫡 I never thought about your exactly right on that. I knew Pat Austin’s car ran on alcohol, matter of fact they mention in the video how much cooler alcohol cars versus nitromethane top fuel/funny cars ran. Not until reading the comment did I ever realize the difference between the two. Thank you

I always wondered why in the 80’s some broadcasts would split the 3 main pro classes & the alcohol classes into 2 broadcasts. Was it to try and get attention on the sportsman? Cause I think after this they started giving the sportsman broadcasts a lot more (saw ‘83 Gatornationals was the earliest of the sportsman coverage from a national event when you exclude the ‘78 sportsnationals)

I shouldn't say this cause Darrell is a true warrior but I don't no about luck I believe id rather be killed than crippled like Darrell is .I In no way have a clue what Darrell goes thru everyday everyday but I did have a truck hit me on a motorcycle an broke both my legs both ankles left hip 5 ribs 2 came out the side of me I was really fucked up fo the a while an I was stuck in. Wheel chair for over a year so I infact no it sucks but Darrell is such a warrior an has done so much for other paralyzed people an he is a true hero e never heard Darrell be down or feal sorry for his self he does his best with what life gave him it's a shame that kid was a future multi time top fuel champion.i had never heard what Darrell said about heating the bracing on that car to bend it a lil so the motor would set lower an that possibly could a been what caused his accident but it's hard to say if darells had his safety gear on an all his belts on he most likely woulda walked away from that crash he didn't have his arm straps on that keep his arms from flying out of the roll cage an he only had his lap belt on an it partially ejected darellan id what caused his spinal injury it's a miracle he lived the video looks bad but i saw some pics of that car an it's bad the rear end an tires are impaled on the gard rails wheir he hit sn it hit a light pole brnt it straight over fot about 8 foot then its like its a tree itd bent ovrr then it goes syraight up like it wsz made like that sombody said that light pole is what cost darel his arm but i dont think so his arm an upper body got drug down thr asphalt with that halh of the car on top of his head neck an arm its w wind it didnt decapate him.darel has done so much with what life gave him .he id a true hero

I’ve been looking for the clip of what I believe was on NHRA Today, I guess would have been 06/15/1997. Seems like Steve Evans covered the exploding bottle in the Orndorff/Eckman pit. I can find that anywhere. I searched your impressive collection already on KZbin too. Do you have whatever episode of NHRA Today that would have been on?

G.O. was the first drag racer I ever met in person back in '90 and he was a true gentleman and polite person. He stood by his car at a meet and greet and answered questions from this pesky kid for 10 mins and never seemed irritated. RIP Gary.
