The difference heard is only due to the difference in the value of capacitance between the two… Get two matched caps to compare and you won’t hear a difference. The caps in the video are not equal in capacitance due to the allowed tolerances (10% for example). The difference in capacitance can be as big as 20% (combined tolerances). So the comparison is useless since we don’t know the exact values. But there will be NO AUDIBLE DIFFERENCE between caps with the EXACT same value. No matter the type.

This is a sad project. The pots are to small. The Musicman Stingray are better and bigger pots. The soldering is a bad thing. The soldering is ROS . OMG.

The pot size doesn’t matter. In fact, a lot of guitar brands switching to mini pots.

I don't see any information on this anywhere (and in the video it certainly doesn't look like it) but I'd like to get some confirmation on it if anyone knows. Does the neck have a gloss finish? I'd hate to get one of these only to find out that the neck has a gloss finish and gets sticky.

I've had this bass for about 3 years and it's wonderful in every way. I think you'd call the neck a satin finish. No problems at all with stickiness.

Exactly how long do you apply the mixture of Caustic Soda to the enclosure. I have been trying with 15gms - 100ml water and it only lasts about 25 mins before the toner goes to shit. Any tips would be greatly appriciated.

Those 2 are very similar caps. Try changing with a paper in oil cap.

This needs to be tested at 75% instead of 100% because the capacitor is bypassed when the pot is full open.

The Yamaha stock pickup sounds really good, I prefer it over the Tonerider. But for the price, the Tonerider is a great pickup! Thanks for the comparison, really helpful!

amazing comparison! but... ...all persons saying that they prefer the passive sound they really do NOT love a Stingray!! because a Stingray was born with an active preamp and with that characteristic sound (not the anonymous passive sound), if you prefer passive sound it means that you don't like a Stingray, it's very simple! ;-)

I listened while closing my eyes, there is a miniscule difference - orange drop is slighly feels brighter to listen but quite sucks on 0 tone.

Correct. No difference. With the tone rolled off, the Orange may have darken the tone a shade more. All a function of the actual value of the cap.

Thanks for giving us a real world demo. Just normal everyday styles that everyday players want to hear in reviews. Excellent! Nice sounding bass I’m getting one of these delivered next week. I had the BB734 but It was a bad one, it had defects (surprised at Yamaha) and the actives were not for me. It got sent back.

You won't regret it. Just got mine and there's nothing "beginner" about this bass. It feels and sounds good. Real value for money.
