Big Jim is in the process of building me my 1st custom bow, due to me this February 2025. A 54" Thunderchild takedown longbow, 47 lb @ 24". I am very excited, and I am sure without a doubt that I will love shooting this bow. Of all the bow makers I researched, Big Jim was far above all others.

Any tips for shooting with glasses on ? I recently had to start wearing glasses and im seeing the frame near my nose when im at full draw .
@standingwolfarchery
@standingwolfarchery 4 ай бұрын
@@mikebritt8934 well, it might be an adjustment at first. I have had glasses the whole time so I don't know anything else. I would just shoot at least 50 arrows a day at a target just to get used to how things look though them and if they shift when you get to full draw. Just stay focused on what's in front of you and the distractions will start to fade 👍

I've learned a lot off Jeff. I read something a long time ago that most of the top gunfighters in the old west had blue eyes, not sure why, maybe the lower melanin just lets in more light? Anyway,great to see you again.❤ from Australia.l do traditional archery,using Bear recurves Great for feel part of the international archery community.

I have zero admiration for Kavanagh, to me he is a very narrow minded man.
@standingwolfarchery
@standingwolfarchery 6 ай бұрын
There is nothing in this interview that would have him come off as narrow minded. If traditional archery is about using a stick with a string to shoot an arrow at a target live or inanimate, Jeff has proven to be an incredible trad archer and has taken many hours out his daily life to simply help others improve their form and aim with his suggestions.

It looks good but I am done with these elastic strings and protruding metal clips. If you made one with straps that clip into place like the Olympic archery ones then that would be awesome, I'd pay premium for that.

If it's actually a review of a pocket quiver, why do I mostly see close-ups of archers (face, head and shoulders) and close-ups in the direction of shooting at the target. But nearly nothing from the Quiver... br
@standingwolfarchery
@standingwolfarchery 10 ай бұрын
Well, I guess now that you bring it up it's not really a review. I don't think I can even review my own gear and not sound biased. Its just meant to show that it works for what you want it to do and that's hold arrows in place while you shoot

i wonder what you think about silencers on horse bow, ive never used them and read many times that they do not work as good on horse bows as ot other types of bows
@standingwolfarchery
@standingwolfarchery 10 ай бұрын
Well, I have never shot a horse bow but it might be because the string is much different than a regular recurve or longbow and the they are much shorter which could have no effect on the sting vibration

I had joined the PBS as an Associate Member in the early 70's. I looked forward to the PBS newsletter/ magazine and read every line in it. I always enjoyed Monty's articles among other archers. I knew that I would be able to go on adventures like them I could go on their adventures thru their writing. Listening to Monty, we had a lot in common. I shot my first deer in the Fall of 1970. My first purchased bow was a Bear takedown in 1973 or 74. My first compound bow was also a Bear Alaskan. We both met people that had a great influence on us. I went to train to be a bowhunter education instructor in NY in 1975. I set down to a fellow that I had never met before. This man was Wayne Trimm. As we got to know each other, I found out that he was a Senior member of Pope and Young. Other men I met like Bruce Jenson, Colby Hansen, Mike Neal, And Howard Lewis helped me greatly. They showed me what it was to be a traditional bowhunter. It is not just hunting with a long or recurve bow but a way of life. It was part of who you were. The never bragged about themselves, shared their adventures with just a few friends, and always were eager to help in any way. The have all passed away now but I have all their stories written down in my journals. As I write this, I look at the bow that I took my first deer with and a shelf of journals ( over 6000 pages ) , old photos, broken arrows, and game taken. I have only shared these things so dear to me with a very few. Another item that we have in common is, we are both the same age, we both live in NC, And we continue to hunt with the same old equipment and enjoy every moment.
