Yes we know girls like their novels and fantasy books. Sorry, when I was 15 i was finishing up with Nietzsche and falling in love with Kierkegaard. I'd rather play a computer game than read a dumb ass novel. No thanks, go back and play with your books

I just finished September House- what a highly absorbing mix of family history, family hauntings, family violence, and family secrets, all wrapped into one Victorian house. I could really relate to Margaret wanting to stay no matter what since I also stayed in an abusive marriage for 22 years before finally getting out. Margaret is extremely practical and is weighing all her options yet she craves stability which she has never truly had in her life until they bought the house. The strain in her relationship with her only child Katherine who administers a sanity test to her mom shows how they deal with life challenges completely differently. Yet in the end, Margaret has her daughter’s back no matter what!!!! I loved the reappearing housemaid Fredrika, who is always ready to whip up a chicken dinner or afternoon tea and is a comforting and reassuring spirit . “Needs must when the devil drives“ is a frequent quote from Fredrika, which shows her stoic and adaptive nature that is so similar to Margaret’s personality.

@@nancykay4128 very well said. I think anyone with experience in abusive relationships would really get alot out of this book. I can definitely related to that "just follow the rules and hold everything together and it will be fine." Mentality of it all.

It seems that all the trees in the temperate rain forest got Cut down and replaced with some kind of pine tree
@auntiecara40303 ай бұрын
This was from a while ago but pretty sure this was a Douglas fir. The 3 main conifers of the temperate rainforest in the PNW are Hemlock, Cedar and Douglas Fir.
@dustworlds52052 ай бұрын
This is a red cedar btw. All the pines you see in the northwest coast region are native to the area, as well as the broader leaved trees. Most of the original forests have been cut down in the 1800s and since then regrown, though the tree species were not replaced or anything. Douglas fir trees have historically gotten notably taller than redwood trees, fun fact. A 466 foot tall one was cut down and measured in the mid-1800s, and there were (unconfirmed) reports of a 480+ foot tall tree, though there are no reliable records of it. Current tallest tree is a 380 foot tall redwood tree. The area gets 1400-3300 millimeters of rainfall a year, which is about the same as much of the Amazon rainforest. This video doesn’t show the moss and ferns that grow on many trees here.

Hmm one of my favourites is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. Exceptionally well written and very magical storyline with a bit of a dark intensity about it without being gruesome. She also wrote The Starless Sea which is also exceptional but definitely for people who LOVE to read. If you like more mystery/crime horror, I just finished Holly by Stephen King that was a really cool read. If you like more witchy/magical books The Magicians series by Lev Grossman is amazing if you can get over one of the two main characters being super whiny. And The Witches of East End series by Melissa De La Cruz is phenomenal and dives into Norse mythology. Also House of the Spirits and Eva Luna by Isabel Allende are both excellent fantasy realism. And fiction but based on historical events.
