Ngl, I feel like Mizuchi being with Legoshi as a partner would have been sooooo much betterrr... Like, I get that Haru's character is an attempt to break the "sexy and dumb virgin female lead" trope, in means of showing Haru talking back or her wish to be seen normally as 'mature'. However, I only see it as he pretending to be mature, because her character is shallow. She falls into another stereotype while trying to break one, which is the "cute but mature female lead who isnt afraid to have sexual relations." I feel like Haru talking back is the only point you can call "mature" until you look at her speech. For example, in this scene she provokes Mizuchi by saying how Mizuchi's boyfriend was the one who kissed her first and somehow him getting rowdy from a kiss is a bad sign furthermore showing "Bad taste" in Mizuchi. I think we must have all forgotten the fact that even tho mizu's bf made the first move, haru still consented? Meaning she willingly agreed to do it with him KNOWING he and Mizu were dating. I think her idea of sex being her only validation from males, a gender of animals making up most of the lead such as in the partiarchy in this society, is wrong in every way. Sex as a coping mechanism and as a means to show off your boldness and individuality aint really a good start, I really do understand in that case why she'd be seen as a slut; she's doing it w ppls bfs, friends, any dude she meets. I feel like her being so harshly bullied is really bad and sympathizable in a way, but also not really? Like you fked around with someones boyfriend, obviously your gonna get flamed for it? Its obvious the author tried to make her mature but only made her a caricature of said quality. She isnt mature, shes just bland and horny. We can take an example from that of the fact that she treats her self-worth by objectifying a part of her body for another being's pleasure just to be seen as an individual, but fails to do so properly and only comes off as an object. Her being a rabbit, making our expectations of her as cute, naive and childish are proved wrong when she talks back for herself, only proved right when she says the things she did while talking back. Look, talking back is fine and all, but commenting on a person's partner that cheated on them with you and blaming it on them for not being properly attractive? That is WEIRD. Us as the viewer ends up seeing this as cute, cool and badass, while we get scenes of her being naive and her appearance or scenes being showed off as cute. Shes not the scummiest character of a female lead, but she is scum. Scum that you cant really develop because her only character development in life was how she just slept around. Mizuchi herself is also scum, but she on the other hand can be developed. She has clear flaws that she can erase or improve for the sake of herself or her future partners, such as her taste in men and her wish to maintain her intimacy until the relationship is going that direction. Mizuchi trying to maintain purity and preserving herself while also trying to be a more assertive and bigger person despite needing another persons care and acceptance, would actually be better for Legoshi and much better in character for the show. I feel like if she were the female lead thoughhh, she'd have to take the bullying down by a biiig number. Mizuchi being a bully, a mean and insecure popular girl would be a big contrast to Legoshi and I think would be a better option as partners, especially regarding character development. I'd like to see more of Mizuchi, but less of her as a bully and more of an obvious side of her which is most likely her being shown as the dominant one in the relationship, being given all the charge and responsibility when she really needs to be the receiver and the one cared for. Because, really she has the type of character design and character personality to be a trope-breaker. Her bad taste in dudes could also be a character trait thing and could be displayed at times and her wish of preservation could be shown as the reason her boyfriends break up with her because they only see her as a pretty face while she needs to have her humane worth seen more then just that. Mizuchi seeing herself as just a pretty,mature and responsible face and not for her other qualities could be what makes her an interesting take at the whole "female lead" thing. Where she dosent necessarily realize her worth from Legoshi, but from moments during dates or conversations with Legoshi. While Legoshi liked Haru because he saw her as mature, the anime and manga fails to convey the emotion of Haru in the way Legoshi sees, and rather Mizuchi would be a better take and convey of the concept. Again, I dont support Mizuchi's bullying. That shits scummy as hell.
