I would argue that even if King Magnifico was evil, he was only evil because of Asha's foolish decisions, and because every classic Disney movie needs a villain, so it might as well be him right? Remember that the only reason Asha challenged the king's perspective on wish granting was because of her own grandfather's wish not being granted, despite the fact that he has learned to accept that he probably won't get his wish. Asha's perspective that everyone should get their wish granted is harmful. What if someone's wish was to kill someone, or rob a market? You can kind of think of Magnifico as Marlin from finding Nemo: He may be overprotecting a little, sure, but you can understand why because of his unspecified dark past. He has some flaws, just as most characters do, but deep down he is a kind hearted king. Also I never got the impression that he sees people's wishes as collectables for himself. I thought they were more like symbols for his kingdom. He even let Asha look at them. If they were really his personal treasures wouldn't he keep them locked away in a vault or something? Let's not forget the fact that granting wishes was King Magnifico's idea in the first place. Would you really argue that he's evil just because he doesn't grant every single wish? That's like calling your mother evil just because she didn't buy you that one Nintendo game you wanted but never got. That's called being ungrateful, which is what Asha and the rest of the kingdom turned out to be. Let's also not forget that he only became the maniac he was at the end because of that forbidden magic book he read. This was only a desperate move which he really did not want to do initially. Again, with Asha being the ungrateful little brat that she was, he was forced to read through the book to fix Asha's dangerous idea on how the kingdom should run. Of course, the King being the antagonist, was somehow trapped in his crystal thingy in the end because that's how movies work. In summary, I still disagree that the King is a bad guy because his way of granting wishes teaches people to not be ungrateful and that he was only forced to become a maniac because of the spell book he was forced to read. Finally, as mentioned in the beginning, every classic Disney film had a villain so I think Disney was kind of forcing him to do evil stuff here and there because they needed someone to be the villain. Lazy excuse for a twist villain considering some of their previous work in my opinion. What do you guys think?

I never took part in theories and debunks before until this, since the bits of the debunk rub off weirdly on me: First thing is that it is obvious that they don't mention that 1:29 - of course there was no mention of spies, think of real life, the government never boasts about having spies put in rival countries as to avoid those countries cracking down aggressively on potential spies and ruining their chances of getting information out of said countries. --- Think of modern day Russia >>> people who pose as "completely regular citizens" >>> some who even had CHILDREN in order to make it as less obvious as possible that they are spies - were in fact spies and sleeper agents, and were busted for it. 2:23 if you look frame by frame - it is in fact a cabbage slug, its slug appearance stays intact to the point where you can see its eyes, and formation, stays the same at every point, including the darker markings which never change, showing that it's not just a weirdly shaded cabbage, there is distinct markings on it and the change in shading is even visible alongside the slug's distinct markings. >> As for the cabbage slug not looking like its real life counterpart, Lemurs are usually brown-ish or gray-ish, Momo and its species are a distinct white, bisons are usually brown and dark in color, Appa is nearly all white with a stripe just like the rest of his species. - And given that something white in the sky may blend in well with clouds as camouflage, it may be a thing that in the Avatar universe, animals are far better at camouflage, and how the writers decided to make the cabbage slugs different from our slugs, is by making them look more like the cabbages as camouflage, to make the Avatar cabbage slugs more distinct. About spies and sleeper agents being put in positions of power, that is not always what a government seeks, sometimes, they will have spies sent in lower positions of power, the higher ones taking care of ruining economy and the enemy's high-ranking individuals, but there needs to be variety as for the enemy to not seek out a pattern, so there usually will be spies among citizens being caught more often as to not drive attention to the rich, and to enhance corruption. The cabbage merchant could very-well be one of those lower-class spies being sent to ruin general common-folk's lives, or maybe have a successful cabbage corp. (trademarked) which would put him in a not-so-significant and not-so-detectable position of power until it is too late and the damage has been done. As for the cabbage bending, that's obviously a joke name, with Alex already explaining that the cabbage man likely connects himself with the spirit world in order to tap into the cabbage-specific plant vision. (And one silly theory for the little robot-chicken clip just for the funnies that I could throw in there is hey, maybe the cabbage man is secretly a migrating ex-swamp bender which would allow him to manipulate the cabbages by the water inside which now that I think about it, it accidentally feeds into the non-parody show a tad bit because that could add onto the spiritual connection thingie, but this is just my own theory I threw in as a joke.) And for the comics - that's a good point, but it could always just be re-theorised that it's not just inspiration for the corporation alone, but also an idea for how he can further ruin the earth kingdom but with technology this time, under an umbrella name relating to his passion to avoid suspicion. >Did I write this because I am in denial while bored out of my mind at 2 in the morning?: Maybe >Do I think this that this video is trash?: No >Do I hate you for attempting to debunk a theory I love?: Absolutely not. This video was a little blunt with its debunking attempts but I still enjoyed it for the fact that it finally got me inspired to get back into writing again! Either way, this video was good, had very good points, keep doing what you're doing dude.

@@kingfishproductions3476 I think its very big of you to be able to admit the otherside has a point too. I respect that and it makes it hard to point out some other things without sounding offensive but I like talking to people about this kind of thing so please hear me out. 1st you seem to have missed some things in the Cabbage theory video not that I blame you some of the text was so breif I wouldn't have been able to read it without pausing it. And after I saw the video I realized more things that even Alex Bale missed or didn't mention. In the text he explains that the creators themselves actually confirmed that the Cabbage Merchant did have Cabbage Slugs when he tried to get on the ferry. Even if that wasn't true you bringing up how all the animals in Avatar are different from the animals in our world actually proves that it is meaniless if the slug is a different color we would expect it to be different. (The only exception is the bear and everyone is weirded out by that). 2nd How did the Cabbage Merchant get into Ba Sing Se? There's 2 possiblities that support the theory. Alex jokes about him taking the Serpents Pass but it is unlikely that a NORMAL person could have gotten through there alone and impossible that he did it while taking stuff like cabbages. He must have a secret or its impossible. The only legit reason he would be going there is if he is a refugee with nothing but the shirt on his back. Think about it besides the cabbages they didn't allow outside food on that boat at all. We see this from how everyone like Zuko and Jet have nothing and barely got any food so they stole from the captain. Maybe there are more comfortable ways to get into the city but the way the merchant tried would only make sense if he was a reffugee going there for safety and there's nothing safe about the Serpents Pass. For an old man starting from scratch and make a living (he keeps getting a healthy supply of cabbages from somewhere) but even if he was smart enough to start a company it doesn't make sense he would have money to invest. Heck there are a lot of reasons he should be in debt but something weird is going on. 3rd Your arguement that spes get high positons of power is debatable. By definition the spy trade is mysterious and much is unkown to most people. But that doesn't really matter because Alex didn't say he was born in the Fire Nation. He said that years of abuse and special treatment for people like Aang and Toph caused him to betray his own people. It makes sense the Fire Nation would take traitors and reward them but they would just be asking for trouble if they gave them a position of power. They could be double spies who sabaotage the Fire Nation within or the could grow a conscience risking that would make no sense. However, we see lots of cases in fiction and reality where people would do something like bribe the Cabbage Merchent with a lot of money (to invest in a company) and then after the dirty work is done everyone involved swears they will "forget" and never speak of it again. 4th Azula's timing at the end of book 2. Azula only comes into the city dressed as an ally of the Avatar AFTER Long Fang is in jail and she litterally comes in the moment Aang and Sokka are not there to identify her. It was common knowledge in the city that you need to stay away from the Dai Lee and that everyone is afraid of them so it would be big news that everyone including a cabbage merchant would hear if Long Fang was in jail. Azula only just arrived in the city and she already said with certainty "whoever controls the Dai Lee controls Ba Sing Se". 5th In the episode "return to Omashu" the Fire Nation is quick to believe there is a plague. It seems like gulible comedy at 1st glance but it suddenly makes a lot more sense if there really was a food problem recently because of something like Cabbage Slugs. Bumi didn't fight back because he knew the people would just die from hunger or sickness; even Bumi's biggest critic said that he had been preparing to die fighting. Sokka did make up the name of the illness. But a Fire Nation soldier clearly says "didn't your cosusin die of that" so they did get the name mixed up but obviously a real plauge had recently killed that guy's cousin and they have reason to believe that disease would be in Omashu (again). We never see anyone try to use this sick act before or after this even though it worked so well. Probably because this was the situation where it was easiest to believe. 6th Cosmic Pelt did a good job of explaining that Alex didn't nessicarly mean he was Cabbage Bending in the sense of normal bending. He was just trying to be funny when introducing this part and he even mocks it himself at first. However once again if you pause the text in his video he explains. Alex says in the video he is cabbage bending and at the same time there is some text that says "or at least he can spy through the cabbages". There is another line of text latter that says "maybe it is a form of water bending since cabbages are 92% water" blood is only 55% water and blood bending is cannon. So your arguement that the closest thing to this is the Swamp Benders is actually supporting this theory. Plus despite being Water Benders the swamp is in the Earth Kingdom. But there is actually an even better example of something almost identical to this being cannon. Towards the end of season 2 the Guru uses the "strong bond between Appa and the Avatar" to find where Aang is and he is even able to communicate to Appa where to go and what the city looks like (again an Earth Kingdom citizen). So it is also cannon that if there is a strong bond of love between a people or things then you can use that bond to find and/ or see through them and clearly the merchant really really loves cabbages. I know that is silly but not much more silly that the merchant's very 1st episode when he says "off with their heads 1 for each head of cabbage". 7th Toph can only sense things around the entire world when she is at the swamp. Yes her normal senses have a wide range but that is not global. If you don't believe me we see several examples of who the spirit energy in the Swamp boosts Toph's ability which would explain why an Earth Bender who used to hate water choose to retire in the Swamp. Toph is clearly owning Kora in their sparring matches and yes Kora was weakened but Toph was just having fun beating her up so clearly she could fight just fine without hurting. But after being away from the Swamp for several days Toph when we see Toph for the last time she clearly says "my back is killing me now". She pushes herself to save her family but afterwards she can't help with a war and even if she couldn't fight her abilty to see accross the entire world would be increably useful to give info to the leaders of the United Forces but she can't. This can only be because she can only do this when she is in the Swamp where its spirital energy is enhancing her abilities. We see multiple example of how a location or event can boost abilities. Aang latter learns to do it on his own but at the end of season 1 Aang is only able to go into the Spirit world by being in the most spiritial place in the North Pole and in Legend of Kora his grandaughter Jinora is able to just barely seperate her sole from her body in book 4 but she clearly says "it is not as strong as it was durring Harmonic Convergence". Finally Alex well established that a MAJOR theme of Avatar is that seperation is an illusion. Something that again hurts your arguement that what Toph is doing is much different from what Alex is saying. The most relevant quote that is when the Guru says "even the seperation of the 4 elements is an illusion". So all types of bending including Spirit Bending and Toph's ability to sense things are all actually just versions of the exact same thing. The Legend of Kora further confirms this whith the story of the 1st Avatar. We see that even the most back bending abilities are just a result of the Lion Turtles using energy bending on humans the way Aang used it on the Fire Lord at the end of the series. So ALL bending is just Energy Bending! Finally the Merchant getting interested in technology in the comics actually help's Alex's theory. We could have speculated that maybe he was studying or experimenting with technology his whole life but this proves his intrest in technology started when he was already an old man. And as I already established if he is who he appears to be he should have been a refugee who had to start from scratch around the end of the war. It is almost impossible for him to have gotten both enough money and enough knowledge to make a big company legitimately. But, he could have used his spying skills to steal technology secrets from others and have money from bribes. If you think about it then it doesn't make sense that Zaheer was the leader of the Red Lotus. He has litterally been locked up for years and the Red Lotus has been secretly going strong all that time. Sure Zaheer is the leader of his small group but we know the Red Lotus has more members with much more reach. We even see that high ranking member of Zaufu city is willing to betray Toph's daughter for the Red Lotus because he is secretly loyal to someone else. Right after a handful of Red Lotus memebers break out they instantly seem to have resources and connections they shouldn't have; it had to have come from someone richer and more influential. Who would have that kind of money? Maybe the owner of a huge techology company. Who would be respected enough for the 2nd in command of Toph's daugher to betray her? Maybe someone who also is respected enough to have a massive statue in Republic City. Sorry this got so long I hope people who read this find it interesting. Like I said I enjoy talking about this stuff.

"People come here, because they know they can't make their own dreams come true. The journey is too hard, it is too unfair, they give their wishes to me, willingly, and I make it so they forget their worries" This line alone is enough to prove Magnifico has a seriously harmful worldview (although this is just one of his many problems). He assumes people know whats right for them, and he doesn't question if what he does is wrong either. He's unaware of what he actually takes from others, he basically supports giving up your dreams and not even trying :D People either have comprehension issues regarding what these characters said, or just assimilated the opinions formed by other. Though to be honest, I think its both 😭
@davoohm27792 ай бұрын
If he really assumes that people know what's right for them then wouldn't he just grant everyone's wishes? Maybe he doesn't grant certain wishes because he thinks they're too dangerous, for both the individual, and for the kingdom as a whole. I agree with your point that he is in a sense telling people to give up by making people forget the wishes that he doesn't grant (even the harmless ones). I don't fully agree with his worldview, but considering he's supposed to be a villain, It's hard to see him as such because at first he seems to have the right intentions. He wants his kingdom to be a safe and peaceful place, unlike the place he grew up in.
@tamas95542 ай бұрын
@@davoohm2779 His character is a bit confusing, because the beginning of the movie paints an entirely different picture of him. However, when we actually see his character, its obvious he's quite a self-centered, irresponsible narcissist more than anything. The personality he has in the actual movie contradicts his buildup quite a bit, as someone like him would have never been able to create a kingdom as idealistic as Rosas. The writers just messed up here when writing his character, they introduced him as far better than what he actually had to be as a villain. Like, look at the way he treated Asha for example, only because she questioned him. He literally forced her to watch as her grandfather is denied of his dream, out of pure malice. A character who does this to a young girl wouldn't do selfless things for others, because they'd be evil af :D Like, his base idea too, that he perfectly sums up with his dialogue that I quoted above, is to encourage you to give up your dreams. Imagine if Rafiki told Simba to not go and take back his kingdom, because that would be hard and dangerous. Thats something a villain would say, but so many people just looked over this fact, and keep repeating that "oh he is the actual good guy here", like a bunch of pre-programmed machines without any thinking
@davoohm27792 ай бұрын
@@tamas9554 Yeah. I agree Magnifico isn't written in the best way. Sure he isn't exactly a great person but considering the fact that he is supposed to be the villain and how "magnificent" the opening song portrayed him, it was hard for me to get used to seeing him as a villain because of my first impression. At the start he was portrayed as this powerful, caring ruler of a magical kingdom but then he suddenly turned into a self absorbed jerk for the sake of the movie needing a villain. This causes his evilness to come out as forced and makes it unclear about his motives or why he became evil. My main point is that deep down, he seemed like a caring, powerful king who wanted what's best for his kingdom. Even if his idea about making people forget their wishes was questionable, he still seemed like he wanted his kingdom to be safe and happy. I think the writers just gave him random evil, narcissistic traits here and there just because they needed a villain. I think they attempted to make a twist villain by having the king of a kingdom be their own villain. Sort of lazy story writing in my opinion because he kind of bounced back and forth between being a kind ruler to being a jerk for no reason.

@@davoohm2779 Thats why the writing of this film shows lots of incompetence. I think they couldn't decide whether or not they wanted to make Magnifico sympatethic or pure evil, so he ended up being a weird alloy of the two. Past the film's introduction scene, his negative attributes only keep growing, even before the book possesses him he's already a questionble person overall, definetly not "good". Let's also not forget that he takes in everyone who wants to live in Rosas, lets them live there for free, giving up wishes is optional, he actually grants said wishes when he could just choose not to, didn't actually start using the wishes for malicious intent until he was manipulated by the book. Asha said it herself in the first song that everyone is happy in Rosas and they would've stayed happy if she hadn't challenged Magnifico. Now they lost probably the only person who had been defending the kingdom from outside threats this whole time.

@@AeridisArt What Asha says is actually not completely true, as Simon's character contradicts it. He thought giving up his wish was good, but we see how it turned out poorly for him, even going so far as to betray his friends to have his wish back. And we don't know how many other people are there who ended up like him, Magnifico is also completely unaware. Another problem is how Magnifico actually handles the arising conflict. We know there's nothing which actually threatens Rosas, no actual danger. Yet he just assumes there is, and becomes the danger. Magnifico is so irresponsible and paranoid of a king, he almost causes the destruction of Rosas all by his own fault. Its not like Asha forced him to be evil or anything. @@tamas9554 We see several people without their wishes, though. Simon is the only exception, yet the movie plays it off like he's the rule. If anything, the movie shows that there's no lasting effect from losing your wish. You're just sad/tired for some time and go back to normal after a while and some rest. Simon would've most likely gone back to normal after a while considering how all the adults are just fine. We can also assume that Magnifico has in fact been protecting Rosas all this time since 1) we know very well that there are dangerous people in this world due to Magnifico's backstory, 2) Rosas is a very prosperous kingdom, and there is no way any other kingdom wouldn't try to get at that pie, 3) there is straight up no military presence we see in the kingdom outside of Magnifico until Simon gets his wish. With Magnifico gone, there is only one(?) guy who is even capable of fighting in the kingdom. The citizens are essentially sitting ducks for any other kingdom who might want to conquer it. They won't have time to build a decent army before everyone catches wind that Rosas' protector is gone. We can argue about Wish's bad writing all we want, but I remain firm that Rosas is screwed either way you look at it.

@@AeridisArt Well, you see thats the entire point of Simon's character, he is the one who's supposed to show Magnifico's system is bad for people. Its just that the writing of the film is also quite bad, but in the imaginary better version, Simon would still fill the same role, except it would be executed properly. Another problem is that we don't actually know how many opportunities did Magnifico rob people from by encouraging them to give up their wishes. We don't know how many others are/were there like Simon. Your theory about this side effect going away after a while is not only contradicted by how they don't ever mention it in the film, but we also have no proof to back up the assumption directly. Magnifico's backstory doesn't tell us enough about the world though, we have no idea how dangerous of a place it is, or if Rosas was ever endangered. Well thats actually not true at all. There are guards in the city, and some of them even come along with Magnifico when he visits Asha's home. Its their horses they escaped with if you remember, though I believe its irrelevant. Magnifico's worldview is really harmful to the kingdom, even if he defends it from outside dangers. He basically encourages people to give up their dreams and not even try, which is quite harmful. These people will most likely never fulfill their ambitions or learn to accept failure. Imagine if Rafiki just told Simba to not be bothered with facing his past, because it will hurt and he may not succeed. Like, if he dies this kingdom is doomed :DD

@@tamas9554 but again, Simon is the exception. Everyone who's had their wish taken are fine, it's just him, so the movie did a terrible job showing that giving up your wish really has as bad of an effect as the movie is trying to make it out to be. If they had more people negatively effected by giving up their wish, they could get the message across better, but the way they wrote it make it feel like it's no big deal. And the proof to the fact that the side effects go away is Asha's mom. She had her wish consumed, was sad for a bit, then shows up at the showdown capable of standing up to Magnifico just like everyone else there. Also, no, not a single guard was shown in the movie. Magnifico straight up appears in Asha's home alone, with 3 horses, for some odd reason. Magnifico's worldview is also irrelevant, as the movie shows that, whether you believe his worldview is wrong or not, his system has worked for the kingdom. The people are thriving, there's no crime, and people are immigrating in droves from all over.

I Think that Analysis Weirdly feels like it has Marxist Undertones...😳

I appreciate the concern but that is not the intention here, I didn’t even know what Marxism was😅, I’ll try to phrase stuff like this better though

Mocking bad things is funny and good. It makes the mocked feel bad for making bad media, so people will decide to make better media.
@kingfishproductions34767 ай бұрын
Even a movie that’s been called garbage can have it’s fans or be real thought and care put into it, no one in the industry wants to make a bad product, what you call bad media is more often than not loud majority BS, this video was not to change your opinion on this movie taste is subjective it was to talk about an aspect of this movie that I have heard no one being up or noticed wheaten intentionally or not, media can be far more nuanced than just good or bad and that is all I’ll say on the matter here
@kylesimmons94577 ай бұрын
@@kingfishproductions3476 Bad films can have fans and care put into it, no one says otherwise. Nor is it asserted that the industry desires to create failure. Low quality media is created out of incompetence, not malice. And no matter how much love I put into crafting a turd, it will always be a turd. Mocking bad things is a great way to make people who actually want to improve their craft do some self reflection and do better next time. You can call for nuance and faux sophistication as a way to escape criticism, but at the end of the day, theres no amount of makeup you can slap on this pig to change its nature.

@@kingfishproductions3476 You talk about nuance, but you're taking a lot of the movie's messaging at face value. Like the grampa's wish. You said in the video that it was just about music, but the wish was clearly stated to be to "inspire others". Now with the visuals and words we can say that the wish is actually to "inspire others through music", and yes, that wish is vague. You can inspire people with music to do more than just music. We've had many stories over human history about granted wishes going bad (whether those wishes hurt others or the wisher themselves), which is why the majority of people agree with Magnifico here. Bruce Almighty is the first story to come to mind. Now I just wanted to say why no one is bringing up what you're stating in this video. The reason is because... we already know all this. What you stated in the video is what the movie wants us to believe about Magnifico anyway and all of us pretty much said "yeah, that's bullshit". The movie was written too poorly for people to see Magnifico as actually villainous. Giving him a tragic backstory and legit reasons for not granting wishes is the biggest reason for it. Dude just needed therapy, and with a kingdom only seeing him as a wish-granting machine, he never got it.

Back in 2022, I argued with someone on Twitter about how Sonic’s not an anime. While the series does have its moments, I don’t really see them as anime, but rather similar to a comic book or even a cartoon. I’m guessing the reason why that guy assumed Sonic was like an anime, was because of the designs & bad translation issues, and of course the “Dragon Ball” similarities. Here’s the thing, Sonic was made geared towards the states. It had a similarity to a cartoon throughout the Genesis days. Once Sonic Adventure came out, the series decided to have a consistent theme that’s like a comic book series. I think starting with Sonic Boom, and later the newer games, they tend combine the more cartoony aspects with the comic book driven storyline… But that’s just my theory. I haven’t played a Sonic Game since Team Sonic Racing, so I’m not sure if there’s like a cartoon/comic book hybrid in the newer games, and even than I assumed it would have a more family friendly feel like in the Sonic Movies. But to be honest, I don’t really know. I’m not a Sonic Fan anymore… I grew out of the series during the 30th Anniversary, so I don’t really know.

Onward being in another planet easily debunks the Pixar Theory as now every Pixar movie (Sequels excluded) are basically in their own separate planet.
