The first 8 minutes are great for an introduction, but for the rest I almost threw up. It's not really your fault, because you rely on known AND available information (+ video quite old). I love Chris' work (like that of Jonas Tyroller, Simon, AuroDev) but it's exploratory, that is to say that he puts his finger on interesting subjects but that need to be dug. The first step is to be SURE AND CERTAIN that the targeted projects are coherent. I had colleagues on the marketing side wanting for example at all costs to target Gauntlet because it was a big inspiration of the project (a hack & slash), except that Steam has no interest in promoting you if the game was successful 15 years ago. It is therefore necessary to create an extended list of competitors (40 minimum, max 100), and retrieve the coherent information: How many active players are there? How many reviews? Ideally, we must then retrieve all the tags and see what appears the most (It is already interesting when we do it on an entire market, it is even more so when we look at the top 5/10 by review or follow, and even more so when we have planned a sorting to differentiate the projects if we are on several genres). About the "empty calorie tags", in fact we must see it as a gateway to an environment. The important thing is to see if this tag is used a lot or not, because Steam will do tests to see if your tag #1 and #2 will work well together, then the tags at rank 1#/#3 and #2/#3. With this system of communicating vessels, if for example your game has werewolves as its main USP, you will be tempted to put it first... which will put you in contact with less than 200 competitors. Refreshing the tags every 2-3 months no longer has any effect, the important thing is to keep an activity on the news and the social hub. On the other hand, you absolutely have to work on your tags: - Before the page is released - 2 weeks before the project is released - After 1 year And what allows you to determine whether the change is necessary or not is simple: When you extract visibility/impression data (Steamworks>Project page>Marketing & Visibility>Store & Steam Platform Traffic Breakdown), do you notice that the traffic linked to the tag is stable? And do you estimate it high? About deadpills, we need to stop using this term and consider them as "signature tags". It should ONLY be what is fundamental (usp). And if the market is small (= few projects with this tag), we put it at the end of the list. Finally, one of the basics is also not to put +15 tags. Something extremely important in your steam page, are the screenshots. You need to be able to sell the game (tell the gameplay loop & genre) just by looking at the 3 first screenshots. They are super important

If you are one person in a bedroom, just go with GameMaker. It has everything 'baked in' that you will need and will save you so much time and energy, plus it is really well supported with tutorials and documentation for any problem you could come across. Unless you are planning some crazy big commercial release, GameMaker is the appropriate tool for smaller games made by one person imo.
