Rob was such a lovely guy and a really unique drummer. He was someone who made the world brighter and more fun to be in. Thinking of Jessica and the rest of his family and friends. Peace be with you all. 🙏🏻

Love this song! There were quite a few great new songs from around this period that tragically never seemed to get properly recorded or released. So thankful for this channel, where we can at least enjoy the live renditions, and so many fantastic concerts from ALL eras of the band.

Wow, they sound amazing here - thanks so much for taking the time to clean this up and share it here! Julianne sounds fantastic, and the fill-in guitarist was quite good as well (I wasn't aware that they played gigs between Tim & Marty). The whole band sounded tight and energetic. Love the way they used to open gigs with a slower, moodier, more atmospheric piece.

Too much of a change for me I'm afraid...I'd followed them from the get go, but when i went to see them at the Marquee on Charing Cross Road when this album was launched.... too much of a change. Still.... I guess they know that now. A lot of water under the bridge since then and you can only make the decisions that you think you can at the time with the information that you can. Much as being a new generation Fleetwood Mac may have turned Julianne off.... it may have sustained their careers. immaterial now though.

Some Finer Day was a bloody good song. It kind of passed me by at the time (I was probably still sulking - my sulk was more about TBJ than Phased although I enjoy listening to it all now) but it really is cracking. With hindsight, I wonder whether they should have done Phased as a project under a different name, although at times it does sound rather like (very) early AAE (with a 90s twist).

Making a fourth album that is radically different to the previous ones is courageous and admirable. Playing a set of just an hour, with the whole of the new album and just one reworking of an old favourite and a cover, was not such a great idea. A good way to alienate loyal fans. Great band though. Shame there was never a (difficult) fifth album.

I can empathise. Every workplace has at least one of those types. I had a similar experience with an arsehole at work over an Eels gig in Leeds around 2001 (a friend who went to the gig raved about it, making it even more annoying). I don't have a doll or pins, but I do remember my ex-colleague's name and will forever bear a grudge!

@@portcullis5622 Sadly because of where I worked, the hours I worked, and where I lived, this proved to have been my one shot at a local concert, meaning I never got to see the Eves play live. Yeah, I remember his name. Worst part was, he wasn't a jerk or anything like that, just didn't want to swap because we'd both have needed managerial approval and they *were* jerks. Ho hum.

In my view the best song of All About Eve as a band, I adore this song (no I'm not religious :) if you really know the lyrics). The sound on this album is very mature. Martha's harbour is at that level as well, but so different. Could have, should have, underrated, you name it.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I saw them on this tour at the UEA in Norwich. They opened the show with Every Angel then, but, like this gig, they played Shelter From the Rain and Paradise. I saw them again at the UEA in '89 and they did open that show with She Moves, there was a sea fog of dry ice and Mark scared the hell out of everyone with his opening kick drum as nobody saw him come on stage! It sent shivers down my spine hearing it again. I'd forgotten just how magical Eve were.

Sadly, AAE seem to have been largely forgotten. I have been listening to their albums a lot recently, as I often do in autumn and winter. Their songs still sound great and Julianne's voice has a rare beauty, that only a few female vocalists have (Sandy Denny, Natalie Merchant, Heather Nova spring to mind). I can't help thinking that if they were from a smaller country, with less competition from other bands, AAE would still be widely remembered and celebrated. Also, they were slightly before (or after) their time. Their songs and electric folk sound would have fitted in well in the early to mid-1970s and also wouldn't have sounded out of place during the guitar band era-of the mid to late 1990s. In the late 1980s, for me, AAE were a shining light in a generally awful decade of over-produced popular music. When I first heard (and bought) Florence and the Machine's debut album (20 years ago), I immediately thought "Aah, All About Eve, just with weaker songs and a vocalist that is good, but nowhere near Julianne Regan's level".
