I got my Jem Jr back in 2008 when it cost £1,000 from dealers here in the UK (now £450), I just wish mine played and sounded as good as that one. I've not had it set up by a professional and now wish I had, but having had several strokes I can no longer play as I did back in the mid/late 1980s, so paying over £50 for someone to set it all up properly seems a waste of money to me. I'd always set up my own guitars other than when Tony Zemaitis (who I knew as he lived near to me at the time and made a fretless bass for a mate) did my late 1980s Yamaha RGX and RGZ back in 1992.

I told my first guitar teacher that the original Jem looked cool with the monkey grip. He said it was a useless marketing gimmick. I stopped taking lessons from him. Your video helped me decide to buy one. My yellow one arrives tomorrow. Thank you! 🙏

I could have bought two these days for the £1,000 price I paid here in the UK for my Jem Jr back back in 2008, I'd love a pink one although the Jem 777VBK was always my favourite but was out of financial reach for me back in the day ☹

Love the series! What is the neck profile like on these?
@jrgguitars36209 күн бұрын
It is a pretty fat neck. Kind of like a chunky C profile. I have found that most necks on kit builds are pretty chunky. I think they do that so it is stable and it is less finish time for the factory. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Brings back some good memories. I owned one of these in the late 80's. I also went the rack path. I was chasing Ronni Letekro & Jake E Lee sound for sure. LOL. I can not recall what I possibly used as a power amp. I know the cab was a Marshall 2 x 12 stereo cab. I don't think I was cool enough too run stereo. Go figure!

Oh man! My dream was to have the largest, tallest, hugest rack anyone had ever seen! lol It's funny how it all come back around as now I just want a killer tube head (like a vintage Marshall sound) and some pedals. What distortion pedal is that
@jrgguitars36209 күн бұрын
No real distortion "pedal". That tone is all from my Line6 Pod Go, recorded direct into my DAW via USB. But the Pod Go settings are a Klon clone going into a Marshall Plexi emulation. A little delay and reverb after the speaker cabinet emulation. I also put an EG in front of the amp to shape the tone and drive it a little harder. I do like the way that sounds. Merry Christmas! That's an excellent video, and it sounds great with the PRS! Are those stock zebra pickups on the guitar or replacements? In either case, they sound great!

Merry Christmas! But since I am so late in responding, Happy New Year! lol Those pickups are stock to that PRS SE Custom 24-08. Let me tell you, I love those pickups. The guitar is great; the finish, and playability, the overall look and feel. But the pickups are killer. I keep trying to find a better sound in other guitars and I can't. Neck and Bridge, both. Clean, Crunch, Distorted: they are awesome. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Very nice video series and playing at the end! Between your videos and the sale Pango is currently running, I ordered the same kit yesterday. I plan to finish it similar to the Keith Urban PRS 22 fret guitat he plays from time to time. How are the kit pickups and tuners? Decent, or go for slight upgrades?
@jrgguitars36209 күн бұрын
Very nice! Good luck with the build. The pickups are ok. Certainly they a cheap but sound good. Like any cheap pickup, the more gain you dial in, the more its the amp that is contributing to the sound and not the pickup itself. The tuners are pretty much the same story, a nice upgrade would be locking tuners but not necessary. I would say to build the guitar and see how you feel afterwards. I’m going to try the series resistor. The Duncan seems to get a big change in volume from 10-9 as the bleed starts to work. So if you’re not carful when playing it’s easy to big a big gain drop by just a nudge of your picking hand.

I love your beard and your glasses I also have a beard and wear glasses but where I work I need to have my beard shaved completely or have it faded because I'm not allowed to have my beard too much also I'm thinking of building this Guitar kit but installing an FRX Floyd Rose double locking surface mounting tremolo bridge on it because I love to use the whammy bar like Eddie Van Halen and Dimebag Darrell and this tremolo bridge is specifically for Gibson Guitars and Gibson style Guitar kits and instead of installing the half pickguard I'm gonna install the Batwing pickguard, the pickups I'm going to install are the EVH branded Frankenstein humbucker bridge pickup and a 57 classic pickup in the neck or 2 57 classic pickups, and installing Kluson Deluxe keystone tuners, EVH low friction pots and Gibson tone pots, I'm gonna do the Eddie Van Halen frankenstrat paint job on the guitar kit but with a dark cherry red

I'm new at this, so i wanted to ask, whats the use for the battery cavity?
@jrgguitars36204 ай бұрын
The battery cavity in this guitar has to do with the type of pickups I'm going to use. I will be using Active electronic pickups. An over simplification is that these types of pickups have lower output that standard (passive) ones. A 9-volt power source is needed to bring them up to level. Active are quieter, can have better low end response and overall differences in tone. It also was the "look" I was going for on this build. Thanks for watching.
