What was that small chuckle at the beginning though? I don't think there is anything funny for a book which is talking about some serious issues... Or maybe, it was a laughter induced by nervousness... for you are making a video for a larger audience. Anyways, the book is a beautiful read with some heartwrenching moments... Thank you for the recommendation.

I honestly dont get the Tomie DiPaola hype. We've read 2 maybe 3 of his works and that was more than enough. I cant put my finger on it exactly but I found his books easily forgettable.

Sounds really great!! Thanks for sharing. I really like curriculum that doesn’t add Biblical beliefs but just sticks to basic Bible. That’s what we love soooo much about The Good and the Beautiful. I love that it teaches morals and basic Bible about God, but no beliefs so each family can teach what they personally believe. ❤❤

Because my family has done a lot of studies around the world we ended up skipping sections we had recently studied. I can tell you we really enjoyed what we did do, especially for my 5/6 year old. I really liked the book list, a great variety of animals, land, life style, silly and educational. We did some creative crafts, and made some fun recipes. My kids still play with the world mat and some animal toys I bought at hobby lobby. I have a friend with younger children, ages 4 and 6, who used it this year and has followed the laid it plan, and she is still raving about it. I hope that helped some. It's a curriculum I would do again if I homeschool another child.

This looks awesome! Thanks so much for sharing! How deeply does it dive into each country chosen from the continent (like one book? a study of that country? etc.)? I'm looking to do something like this for my son's kindergarten year, but I'd love to focus on countries as well as continents. :)
@bearhilladventures
@bearhilladventures 5 ай бұрын
Yes, it goes a bit into countries, some more than others, kind of depends on how much is available for that country too. When we did Africa I did additional searching for more countries and lots don't have books for kids available. I think it's a very appropriate level for Kindergarten. For upper ages I love the Gather Round connecting continents! But I think those go too deep for kinder level.

Do you have a link to the primary booklist that you mentioned is online? I was on the website but couldn’t find it. How much prep time was required? Were the supplies needed things that you could find around the house?
@bearhilladventures
@bearhilladventures 5 ай бұрын
Yes, supplies are things you most likely have or can easily get. Prep time is minimal. You have to look ahead to reserve books from your library. Other than that you might want to do a quick look at the beginning of the week to see what's cooking up, but it's really open and go. I think the book list is available through a link provided once you own the curriculum.

This curriculum looks so awesome! I have 4 boys k-6th grade In your opion do you think pairing just the game from GO GLobal and connecting continents from Gather Round would work 🤔 I have only used the inventions and ideas unit so far and debating on sticking with Gather Round or Moving on to something more in depth. I appreciate your thoughts!
@bearhilladventures
@bearhilladventures Ай бұрын
Oh my goodness. I missed this comment before. I'm so so sorry. I really like the connecting continents units, but did find some of the lessons to be overwhelming for my young children. I think if you are the kind of mom that likes to make things your own and can choose well what to do and what to pass on they could go together, but if your the mom that wants to do it all it would be to overwhelming. But I'm curious, what did you end up doing?

Do you think you could stretch this curriculum from k-6th grade?
@bearhilladventures
@bearhilladventures 7 ай бұрын
Using it as a spine for your family subject/ time together can span quite a bit but no it won't offer enough to really consider it a curriculum for anything beyond 4th grade. 3rd and 4th took quite a bit of additional creativity to even make those work. Have you checked out Gather Round? They have great unit studies for each continent that are appropriate for k-12!

You might also love Layers of Learning. It’s a ton of activities for history, geography, art, and science that you pick and choose (with book lists for all subjects). All the subjects sort of dovetail together. Or you can do them individually So if you were learning about caves that would be your science portion, for art you might do cave paintings, for geography you might learn where different caves are, for history you might learn about cave men. You choose what you learn and it’s a four year cycle if you want to do it that way. Or you can just pick and choose random things with it with other curriculum or just on its own. I truly believe everyone should own it in homeschool just for the ideas even if you don’t use the 4 year cycle. It’s like Pinterest laid all out for you on paper in order of history. It’s amazing! They also have writer’s workshop that is awesome too! And they have a really great podcast to listen to even if you aren’t using their curriculum.

Turn to Jesus people he died for your sins. Repent of what the New testament describes as sin. Believe the gospel get baptized and obey the teachings of Jesus. The gospel and the teachings of Jesus are documented in Matthew Mark Luke and John. Jesus is the only way to be saved God bless you all. If you have faith in Jesus through your faith you will live life with him as your example.

Oh what fun! I have the same exact philosophy here re geography and giving my children a heart for the Lord's people and an awareness of a bigger picture than what they might see in just their personal day to day lives. We laid that foundation last year w My Fathers World " Exploring countries and cultures" (we had so much fun!) Otherwise I would totally join you doing that this year! I've never heard of Going Global but you've really piqued my interest! I may use it next year when we revisit supplementing w heavy geography for my youngest kids ( we've since left MFW as I venture into creating my own curriculum, eek!) A resource I used last year that you might like is: Give your child the world by Jamie c. Martin It gives some excellent book recommendations and is written by a Christian mom..though I'd recommend using discernment when selecting from her book list recommendations as some of the books wouldn't have been a good fit for what we allow, but may be perfectly OK for someone else. ❤
