Hey so I’m having trouble with a 2006 Volvo s40 2.4i and I’m getting p0171 with p420 and the p0171 could be a bad oxygen sensor but it could be MAF sensor as well. What are your thoughts?

Video Poster Update. This is an UPDATE to question. I will add another video soon of Rear sunroof Drains. But read comment below. Sorry i forgot to mention this in the video. You also have 2 Rear drains as well. Backside of the sunroof. They run down you rear " Oh Shyt Handles " to the rear of the car. I did this video because only my front one's were clogged. So to get to the Rear drains you must take down the rear " Oh Shyt handles " and slightly pull fown the headliner you will see the tubes. Just make sure you are not yanking the headline because you can damage it. Do the same steps as the front drain tubes and you are golden. I will add a video up soon of me doing the rear drain tubes. As another person commented. They have a " Gurgling sound " when turning on the AC or defrotsters. That would be your AC drain line. The AC drain line is UNDER the floor carpet. You must DISCONNECT BATTERY 1ST. Then You must take out your seats Front seats only Driver and Passenger side Seat wiring Harnesses then the carpet to expose the small drain tube for the AC drain line. It has 2 White connectors with a small black hose. Also remember. DO NOT turn the car on with your seats out and unhooked because some Models have Airbags in the seats and you will have a forever airbag light on if you do. If you need to leave the carpet out to dry the carpet you can just rehook the seats back up and drive with NO carpet. But be sure to Disconnect your batter before taking the seats out and only connect the battery once your seats and a seats wiring harness is Reconnected. Your carpet will be fine to be out the car for a few days until it fully dries out and you fix the issue with the AC drain. Remember your floor well can hold over 2 gallons of water in each side of the floor. So even if it is Just the sunroof drains and you want to take the carpet out to get all the water out you can as well. Just remember DISCONNECT BATTERY 1ST... then Disconnect Seat wiring harnesses on Front driver and passenger Frontside. Then take carpet out. For a few days to dry. Use shopVac to get any standing water out. Hope this helps....

Then you have a clogged AC drain. That is under your carpet. You will have to take out the seats and carpet to find it. It will have 2 white connections going into the floor of the car and a small black hose.

Any time you use the AC or Heat/defroster it will back up. It probably pushed the hose off one of the white connections

I have a 2009 Volvo S40 2.4I with a P0171 I did look at the fuse in that location... which was 20A and it looked fine. I plan on ordering a Sensor.. Some sellers say it is for Upstream or Downstream. A Part Number that I've seen commonly is the 234-4734 - which says it's for my car.. But I find the "Fitment Charts" are very Unreliable. Just curious to know if everything has been working OK, and the Code has not re-appeared?

Do the reset steps at the end of video. Unhook battery for a few minutes then turn it to on position but not fully on only to where you have power to radio and so on. Then let it reset and then turn it off all the way wait a few minutes then turn it on fully and drive around your home close to your home for a few minutes

I’m thinking of buying a S40 with a leak on the passenger side. I have an 04 Cadillac Escalade that had the same problem but the water came down the same area as yours and drains into the cowl under the windshield wipers. There was an access to the inside of the dashboard that was not sealed anymore due to age. I removed the plastic cover and caulked it. Never leaked again. My question to you is… does the water also drain from the lower corner of the widow into the cowl that catches the water from the windshield wiper area also? Or does it have its own tubing that goes down to the bottom of the car?
@ronbond3777
@ronbond3777 Жыл бұрын
@@DobraLLC it has a tube running down out under the dash to the bottom of the car should be on your passenger side under. If you pour water in the area to drain you can see it draining under the vehicle
@DobraLLC
@DobraLLC Жыл бұрын
Hello Ron, I did buy the S40 and found the problem. The water does not drain directly to the bottom of the car. In each corner of the dashboard there is a rubber tube that connects to a special grommet that drains the water into the cowl. Then the water drains from the cowl which also collects rain water near the windshield wipers and drains it to the bottom of the car. In my case, that special grommet was broken and the water was draining straight to the passenger floor. After fixing that with an extended piece of tubing and throwing the grommet away it was leaking into the head liner because the tubing near the sunroof was clogged with debris.

Thanks for putting this out there. I have a FIXD to plug into my computer board and got the same code. It's good to see the exact make/model/year as I have to see where exactly it is located. I already replaced my camshaft sensors. This should finish the job. I heard that you need to replace both camshaft sensors typically when you replace the crankshaft senor, so that might be something to know before you start this job. I got the crankshaft sensor for about $25 and the two camshaft sensors were $75/$85 respectively. I got the parts at Autozone. I hope this helps others who are looking to do this repair themselves as well. Thanks for putting up this video. It's good to know where to look once I get the tire and fender skirt off.
