I own 2 zebra nerite snails. I can tell them apart because one has stripes and one doesn’t, and now on to the story, so one day I was looking at my tank, it is a small tank because we can fit them in) the striped snail who I named bungee was stuck on his top and he was on one of the rocks so I used a spoon to flip him back on to his bottom and then he never started to move but after 5 minutes he started moving again and he is still alive (for now)

High nitrate concentration can be a part of old tank syndrome, but you can still get old tank syndrome with unmeasurable levels of nitrate. What is more dangerous is hydrogen sulfide and/or metan production from debree, usually in the gravel or between rocks. This can happen even with regular water changes sufficient to reduce both nitrate and metal ion concentrations to safe levels in the tank.

Besides Nutrient Value, all of the other points are the same with fish pellets and flakes as well. You forgot the most important aspects on why you shouldn't feed bread as well, fish can't digest yeast and some breads have lactose which fish also can't digest.

I'm normally not one to get squeamish but I have 2 albino blue mystery snails. One of them was floating the other was just minding it's business and I checked it's lid on the snail that was floating and let me tell you it vibrated and closed and squirted out water. I probably looked like a little girl that had a spider on them. Never in my life have I ever felt chills down my body. But I had to check before my ammonia levels spike, again.

I'm literally watching my trumpet snails eat my monte carlo RIGHT NOW. There's plenty of decayed stuff for them to eat but they've decided they like my Monte Carlo and Guppy grass is all gone. I put more in yesterday from my other tank and it's ALREADY ALL GONE. I also fed them all waters and pellets yesterday and they still ate my M.C and GG instead of the detritus i can see right next to them. I've been advocating for these guys naively for ages but it's over for them now for me. I'm getting rid of them all by all means , 😭

A very clear explanation of how nitrates can build up to contribute to Old Tank Syndrome. You didnt mention how minerals can build up over a long time when you dont do water changes. When water evaporates, only pure water leaves the tank, the dissolved minerals will remain in the tank. Topping the lost aquarium water with tap water (that has been treated for chlorines with Seachem Prime/ API Stress Zyme etc) will add additional minerals. Over a long period of time, your water hardness will very gradually increase. This also contributes to Old Tank Syndrome. So its important to measure for Nitrates & Hardness if you suspect you have Old Tank Syndrome.

My friend had to tear down his planted tank when he was moving to another apartment. I helped him transition by temporarily keeping his plants in a spare aquarium I have. But his anubias was covered in black beard algae. Instead of scrubbing or brushing it, I simply put the anubias in a no-fish aquarium I have with amano shrimp. The amano shrimp ate all of the black beard algae off the anubias. He was amazed to see his anubias all clean and green again.

I love rabbit snails, I caught a flash sale deal where the store was selling Baby rabbit snails for very cheap and I got a bunch of them, "my question is how likely they are to be outcompeted by shrimp and other pest snails" (I have bladder snails that do a very good job with green and brown algae)

I’m new to aquarium ownership and care and it’s been a learning curve (more so than I expected). Your video was very helpful and you convinced me to try and give one of my snails one more chance before getting rid of it, assuming it was dead. The snail is okay and I still have it, thanks to you. Much appreciated!
