Thanks for your videos. I have a 74 1448 Monark I just painted with black alumahawk. Im working on a 4 foot deck on the front and 4 foot deck on the back. Plywood, carpet, swivel seats. I was looking at hydroturf but i believe my dogs world ding it up pretty good. Any suggestions would be great. Novice. Thanks.

Any time a KZbinr advocates removal of safety systems, I put them on the list of sites I click do not recommend. You are now there. I have pulled too many bodies out of the water because they destroyed the safety features of a boat by unintended negligence (letting the boat sit with water in it) or deliberately.
@shitloveaduck6 күн бұрын
Removing the foam, other than to replace deteriorated foam, is dangerous! The boats are designed to float at a certain level if swamped to keep you safe. If you take the floatation out, the boat will not float. You admitting you have removed theses safety features and even teaching people how to remove a seat,,,,, it’s your life, AND others that take your advice! I’m a retired police officer & and volunteer fire/rescue member. I have showed up where the boat is nowhere to be seen. Too often there are bodies unless they got to shore. Even a life jacket will not help in cold water. With scenarios where the boat is still at the surface & upright I have yet to deal with any fatalities. Some severe hypothermia, yes, but we have gotten there every time to save the people. Another unfortunate scenario is people not wearing their life jackets they stuffed in the openings where the foam was,,,,. Too many times I have piled bodies out of the water, or have dove to locate bodies & the life jackets are floating right there! If you get disoriented even when you hit the water, you need your life jacket on to save you. Try putting one on while wearing boots, pants, shirt, jackets etc once you are in the water. It’s very difficult depending on the style, to almost impossible. Just hanging on will work in warm waters, but in colder to frigid waters, as the hypothermia takes hold you will lose grip/contact with the life jacket. You’re done then & drown. If you are unconscious from hypothermia & floating, any slight evidence of you still being alive gives us a great chance to bring you back! We have done it many, many times in my case. I see the complaint that the foam is waterlogged. That’s a boat that was poorly maintained & sat with water, a lot of water, inside of it. The water sitting in it can absorb into the foam “over time”. It takes a very long time to get to the point it affects the boat’s performance. That’s just severe neglect. Even when you find “rotten foam” you don’t just remove it, you replace it. If it’s your boat, then take care of it, keep it dry & out of direct full sun without protection. A waterproof tarp goes a long way. Storing the boat upside down & covered when possible is the best. Don’t leave the plug in when storing it so it doesn’t fill up. If you remove floatation, due diligence is to put it back. Restore the safety of the boat, don’t ignore it, then do whatever you want. In one response you kinda say this, but the add, ‘whenever possible”. In an aluminum boat it is ALWAYS possible. Remove the set as you have shown, then replace the foam, hopefully with a better product, and re-install the seat back where it was,,,,. You kinda missed the mark there,,,,, Be careful people! The boat is still keeping you at the surface if it is swamped even. I have seen motors still run while the boat is swamped and people have made it to shore as a result!! Don’t give up! Keep everything that can save you intact or restore it! Don’t remove it. 😊

Don’t forget to verify the foam is still in the seats and compartments as designed. I have seen many boats with these voids opened up & the safety floatation removed. I have had to respond as an officer to sunken boats, rescues & drownings. When you take the foam out, then take a wave over the bow (it can be calm in the morning here and by noon be blowing 50 mph) these boats sink fast. People may have the life jackets stuffed in those voids underneath a compartment that was built for a deck above, I went to one rescue &I picked 3 bodies out of the water with all 3 having life jackets floating within feet of them. This was only in 35 mph winds. We can only get there so fast and it doesn’t take long to drown, especially in cold water or if you are out of shape. Keep everything you can to keep you safe! On the positive side, I have responded to boats fully upright and completely flooded. Water is going over the rails as there’s only maybe 6” of freeboard, but the boaters are safe & maybe cold is all. In fact one rescue, the dog was perfectly dry. The guy & his wife were hypothermic, but the fully grown German shepherd had been held out of the water for about 1/2 hours!! Hahaha. They insisted I take the dog first. Then I used a pump we have that’s ga powered & high capacity. We reflated the boat, the engine fired up and the humans, shivering all the way, piloted the boat back to the dock! Heh heh. The dog was an awesome dog, satin the Captain’s seat on our centre console while the “First Mate”, my Sergeant, spoiled him all the way in!! What a dog. Those people were awesome spokespeople at the schools, community centres, for being positive over the safety features keeping them & their 80 lb baby alive and the Fire & Rescue as well as Police Service coming to their aide and taking such good care of their baby!! Haha. So, don’t buy a boat that has had entire seats, or safety features removed. Please. Your life could depend on them!!

That motor should have made a trip to a shop prior to your adventure. Judging by your commentary Iwould suspect bad gas or perhapse you failed to open the tank vent. Seems like you forgot to do a little research on whats involved in setting up and disassembling a dingy. You have not presented a fair and true assesment of these boats as many users including myself are very happy with them. Im sure the Bris company would thank you for an apology. Nothing wrong with Johnson motors either if given proper maintenance.

I just bought my first boat, 1978 landau that's a 1668 with a 1958 Evinrude 35 hp lark for $1k. The trailer needs new bunks, I know you said do not use pressure treated wood on the boat. Should you not use it for the bunks as well? I've gone through and re done all the wiring and hope to be able to paint the boat and the trailer in the spring if I can figure a way to get the boat off the tailer. Thanks for the videos!

PT Bunks are even worse cause they stay wet for so long with carpet, it can peel paint that sits on it over time

I think it's essentially the choise between easy setup + having a trailer and bigger storage space vs. convience of everything-in-the-trunk and less storage space + troubles of inflate/deflate.

Does adding flooring and foam help with keeping boat floating if more weight is added onto the boat as in let’s say an extra person who weighs 200+ pounds wants to ride on it

Inflatables are great I have the same exact motor and my boat goes 25mph and I go 30+ miles offshore on my inflatable. Nobody likes the aluminum floors. Your never sopped to rev a 2 stroke motor in neutral like how you are.... you can hear the motor over infighting and backfiring.. it seems like you had no breather valve open on your gas tank..... otherwise with a clean carb and good plugs it should run just fine. Aluminum boats obsolete to this in real open water. These can handle just about anything and never sink. Mine has 5 separate chambers

If you plan on doing any trolling i recommend a bow mount trolling motor and using the fish fighter trolling motor mount. With a simple pin removal you can swap bases to an anchor nest. Checkout millennium boat seats as well
