You can as long as you do it before you apply the oil also the following day there may be dust like rust residue that you just buff off

Most bluing requires that you rinse with water after to stop the product from rusting

The browning or bluing reacts to the nickel content in the steel depending on which product you using... I normally give whatever project I'm doing a rub down the following day with fine wire wool then a buff and it turns out ok but different products require a bit tweek8ng in how you deal with it

It can take a few coats to get the colour you want I normally do about 5 coats and even out the coat with 0000 grade wire wool before I put the oil coat on

@@duffmanmark its like an oil, its not spreading evenly. edit: i looked closely and the steel was 8cr13mov... it only works with under 3 cr. i tried on a different tool and it works. 1st time i applied with a small brush, now with a cotton pad. thank you.

You will never get a dark blue finish with cold bluing, because of the same chemical[selenium] used in the formulas. It always create this blackish color.
