Very helpful discussion - just wanted to contribute an idea not mentioned: the ‘years that run like rabbits’ and the ‘burrows of the Nightmare’ together made me think of ‘naked’ Justice as a days’ old blind and hairless kit, barely born and vulnerable. With democracy in Europe in its infancy, fascism on the rise and world war looming, the burrows provide a necessary refuge from the Nightmare and some hope that justice, protected from threat and nurtured, may survive.

Fun fact: the title card in this incorrectly says the title: The Lost Child. Sorry for the tiny spoiler. The story's title is the Lost Ghost. Many apologies to the author. This what happens when we rush to print. Oops.

What an interesting folk tale. Very nicely read too. I was really surprised this upload is from the current year. I thought libraries had been starved out and left for obsolete. But here you are, alive and well and uploading stories. I believe if you want to get people interested in reading, read to them. In this digital age it's easy to forget how vital libraries are and will always be. Not everything gets uploaded. Thank you for the wonderful story Malden Public Library. Signed, A Reader

Also check out more work from our panel participants. Andrea Wolanin is a local filmmaker whose films are dark and thoughtful and often defy description. To quote from the filmmaker herself: "While dread and gore might often be inherent in the narratives that so beguile me, I strive to push genre boundaries. My movies are injected with themes from fantasy, science fiction, and the magical realism common to my Latin heritage. I want to tell stories that not only look at the treachery of our souls, but at the darkness of our future." If you would like to see more of her work please check out her site: andreawolanin.com/ Shiraz Biggie is completing her PhD in the department of Theatre and Performance at the Graduate Center, CUNY where she focuses on national culture movements and their relationship to diasporas. Her dissertation looks at diasporic responses to tours and the repertory of the national theatres of Ireland and Israel pre-statehood with a focus in part on the way folktales get reworked in establishing national identities. She currently teaches courses on the performance of children and young adult literature at Brooklyn College where she focuses on the adaptation of fairy tales for multiple audiences. She has been published in Studies in Musical Theatre and in the Palgrave Handbook of Musical Theatre Producers and presented at numerous conferences. She is working on a future digital project collecting historical examples of folk and fairy tales in stage performance. Evan Crean is a Somerville-based film critic with a decade of experience in the industry. Evan is a co-chair of a local film critics group the Boston Online Film Critics Association, co-host of the weekly film podcast Spoilerpiece Theatre, and co-author of Your ‘80s Movie Guide to Better Living, which is a lighthearted book about life lessons you can learn from 80s movies. www.your80smovieguide.com/ Josh Kastorf is a digital storyteller based in the Boston area whose films have screened in festivals internationally and whose photos have appeared in art shows and publications including the Boston Globe. Josh recently completed his Master's of Professional Studies in Digital Media, video concentration, at Northeastern University. And also has a BA in film and video production from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. You can see an example of his exploration of myth making in Vasariah: Children of the Sun and can be viewed on KZbin. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lV7XZqdvhsiKqMk And you can check out his other work at 8thmuse.com Jim McDonough is a local filmmaker with an innovative take on storytelling. His films often incorporate weird props, puppets, and special effects. Jim's unique method of mixing the fantastic and absurd make his short films a weird and surreal experience. You can check out much if his past work on his KZbin page Friday Night Films. kzbin.info Also look for his work at local film festivals both streaming online and someday in person. Phil Healy is a Boston-area filmmaker who’s produced programs for Comedy Central, MTV, and more. His award-winning short films and features have played all around the world.
